I hope JCLGO confirmed the position with Manzo's campaign before issuing the last minute email. If it was campaign literature I would have been wary as to the source.

Just watch how many dumb-ass retired 'hoods' she (Cunningham) has to repay for helping her with getting the word out to vote for her.
There will be a queue at her office for a government job that pays well and that they can lay about, but will have a big impact on us that require that service.

I voted for Manzo because I thought he would better represent the district on the issues about which he spoke. I live in Paulus hook and Manzo has come to HPHNS meetings so I felt I knew something about him. That said, I received an e-mail from JCLGO showing that Manzo would vote against a gay marriage bill and that Cunningham would vote for one. I assumed that he wouls support marriage equality given what I had heard him say of his positions. However, I would have changed my vote to Cunningham if I had read that e-mail before voting.
Contrary to some of the postings here say, I believe the Ward E voters who voted, did so based on their understanding of the candidates positions on the issues that matter most to them. In any election, the choice is never easy, because no candidate is perfect. You must vote according to the issues that matter most to you.

McCann wasn't on Manzo's ticket...you idiot.
You're right. Depressingly ignorant. And when you think how many others there are...

Then Manzo should have chose a better ticket. McCann was convicted, and Manzo runs on the same ticket.

if you asked those that voted for her why, they would say the same thing, Manzo is a crook. no one bothers to do the research for themself, they just get spoon fed the crap on tv.
but honestly, does anyone ever vote FOR someone? it seems to me lately i just vote AGAINST someone. that may be sad, but thats how it is: lesser of 2 evils. ps. our voting place was empty. so the article on here a while ago was right. They predicted she'd win off of the activists vote. b/c normal people didn't bother to show up. so if you didn't vote, shut the F up.

McCann was convicted of tax evasion, not Manzo. Ms Cunningham spent federal grants meant for charity and the people of jersey city on herself and a party--now THAT's criminal. Which of these three people do you think is more likely to screw the people of JC?
Your ignorance is depressing. Quote:

I think Ms. Cunningham is a lot better than that other candidate. Wasn't he convicted of something.

I was thinking the same as Dave. I'm in Ward F and was around a good part of the day and the Cunnites were all over the place, hanging signs everywhere, driving around with the speaker blaring and talking to anyone who would listen. And they've been at it for the last several weeks. Not one man-zite in sight this entire time.

You didn't see any B in your area because the true fight for the 31st was in Ward A and F. I heard that overall the downtown numbers in the 31st were not great.

The only people i saw on the street yesterday were the Column A supporters. They were on every street corner from the grove street path to the polling stations. I didn't see one person on the street pushing for column B. Not one.

What a fcuking joke - I suggest fulop needs to get some sort of conviction or felony charge on himself or employ felons to succeed in his mayoral campaign.
Politicians in Jersey City / Hudson County is like our sewers in the rain - all we get is crap.

Imo thats manipulating the vote. The other thing that just boggles my mind is why we cant vote online? Or thru our cellphones? Why does it have to be lowest common denominator? Why not let people vote whatever way is easiest for them? Make it easy, more people will vote.

That's just politics. You can't blame politicians (scorpions) for being politicians (scorpions). Even a "good" or "reform" administration would do the same to improve its chances (although I have to say I'm disappointed in Cory Booker...scorpion). The real problem is an uneducated, unmotivated electorate that doesn't (or simply can't) take time to understand the issues, or votes the same old way out of "tradition" or habit or some other narrow self-interest. You can't fight demographics, but sometimes you can outlast them. Cunningham will be exposed for the weak link she is as she's handled by her "advisors". But if she becomes an embarassment or a threat to the machine, she'll be jettisoned next time around. I imagine tomorrow starts the "Manzo for Mayor 2009" campaign.

Nope. I'd ask why the JCPD decided to play politics a couple of days before the vote. While we all agreed the reduced crime stats were welcome...it was the equivalent of exploding the Madrid bomb right before the vote.
Were people suckered by this? Are people suckered by the road repairs before local votes? I cannot believe that we allow such vote engineering, certainly not from pubicly employed officials.

She won because of her last name, hope the same does not happen in the democratic presidential candidate elections.

Bolden Cunningham gets senate nod
Sandra Bolden Cunningham has captured the Democratic nomination for the state senate seat once held by her late husband, Jersey City Mayor Glenn D. Cunninghm. The tide turned in the race about two hours ago, with Bolden Cunningham pulling ahead of Assemblyman Lou Manzo, D-Jersey City. With 84 percent of the vote counted, Bolden Cunningham had 8,430, or about 55 percent, to Manzo's 6,943. Bolden Cunningham ran on the Hudson County Democratic Organization ticket, while Manzo ran with the Democrats for Hudson County, a ticket put together by Union City Mayor Brian Stack, who easily won the nomination for the 33rd District senate seat. Bolden Cunningham's running mates, Bayonne City Councilman Anthony Chiappone and former Jersey City Council President L. Harvey Smith, were winning in the assembly race.
