Thank you again Bret Schundler for selling Jersey City's water supply to balance your budget (to buy more religious icons for the City Hall lawn.)
After all, Jersey City DID only have it for a century. That'll teach Jersey City the consequences of electing a Republican mayor. Suez Water, eh. I suppose the smell of camel dung is soon to be expected?

It's only a name. If the water is coming from the same source which I believe is a reservoir in north Jersey it's fine. Much of the bottled water sold comes from one source and hyped as designer brands under a multitude of names. Bourgeois nonsense.

In my home town the guy in charge of the waterworks stole and sold off the chlorine for pool use... I think he also used too much of it in the drinking water... not sure if Suez is any worse than the local company would be -- and although I'm no fan of Suez - they also manage a lot of water all across America and the world -- but one would think Jersey City should be making lots of money from the selling off of water from our upstate reservoirs.
Oh and my old waterworks also always opened and shut the water mains really fast -- making the water often discolored - he thought he was cleaning the pipes - oh the memories!

Suez was one of the original companies involved in building the Suez Canal - that's how they got their name. They've been around forever and they're a huge conglomerate with public works projects all over the world (i.e. - they have lots of experience bribing corrupt local officials, which makes them uniquely suited for doing buisness in JC). I don't think they really got involved in the water business until they merged with one of the big French water utilities a decade ago.

Did you get a water bill? There was an insert in the envelope announcing that United Water will now be known as Suez Environnement/United Water. They will have a new logo on their uniforms and trucks. It looks like it was designed by a six year old.
 Suez is a French company, the largest water company in the world. Why would you name a water company "Suez"? Suez is in Egypt. When you think of Egypt, does water come to mind? No, you imagine yourself crawling through the desert, dying of thirst, seeing mirages. Egypt is made of sand and pyramids. It is 200 degrees in the shade. They ride camels there because camels don't drink much water. No, the word Suez does not inspire thoughts of cool, clean, fresh water. And I'm not too crazy about the French connection either. Didn't they find traces of sheep poo in French bottled water?
