When I rode by last week it seemed to be close to the road at 440. Easy to get to.

I sure hope its a Costco that sells gasoline as well. That would be doubly awesome.

Plus Teterboro has a kosher bakery and stocks kosher meat. I haven't been to Edison, is the booze that much cheaper than Buy-Rite? I should check out the one on rt 1 in North Brunswick on the way to visit mom. I sometimes buy booze in the TJ's down that way. The retail laws in our local counties are pretty absurd. Lets shake out the liquor laws while we're doing the weed reform. The notion that a supermarket can't sell booze but a concession located in the market can is just nonsense.

Why are people travel1ng out of JC and to big box stores for seafood? Up on West Side Avenue a block or two past Max Heirs (check out their clothing and sneaker selection)on the left facing Bayonne is a great fish market with a variety of seafood that will knock your eyes out. Park your car in the Park Tavern lot, go in and have a bloody or two and stroll on down to the fish market. Just ask someone on the street and they'll tell you where it is, or follow your nose. Give the little guy a chance.

As Brewster said, the thing about Costco is that pretty much everything they sell is top quality, particularly their fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish/seafood. Their lobster tails are huge and just perfect. Their supply of fresh, wild caught fish is rather limited most times, but whatever they have on hand is always good. As an aside, I?m really surprised that people continue to patronize the Clifton location when Teterboro is just three minutes farther out but so much easier to get in and out of it, and much larger, making it more comfortable to shop. For that matter, the Edison location is the best within a 30 minute drive, as it also sells alcohol, which is another huge perk of a Costco membership.

They don't carry much in the way of fresh seafood, but what they do have is top notch. We buy their wild caught Atlantic salmon, shrimp and other stuff pretty often.

The thing about Costco is everything they sell is great quality, they carefully curate their stock. Just buying laminate flooring from them every once in awhile justifies keeping my membership.

I also heard good things about Costco fish and seafood quality. Do you guys concur? If so I'd be very happy.

Agreed, papadage. The price savings on just a few trips pays for our membership. We currently go to the one in Clifton so I'm stoked about the Bayonne location. We don't have a whole lot of storage so this will make it easier to take more frequent trips. On a good day I'm in south Bayonne from DJC in 15 minutes when visiting fam. Two thumbs up!

We go to the one in Clark, and we hit it for about $200 every couple of weeks. We have an Executive membership, so the rewards check we get at the end of the year pays for the membership.
Membership is worth it for organic milk, meats, cheeses, paper goods, snacks like almonds and protein bars, a lot of produce like bagged salads, tomatoes, cucumbers and berries, yogurt, seafood. It makes feeding a family of five (us, our kid, and my in-laws) very reasonable.

Exactly. How much do you have to buy/week at Costco to make it worth the membership fee?

It's a store for goodness sake. Go somewhere else. Don't they charge you to be able to shop there??

Well, it got worse after the Skyway work started. It would take many millions to engineer that intersection with a flyover, probably taking room for clover leafs from the park. Look at the insanity going on at 14A for a good example. There's no reason getting from 78S to 440S needs to be such a shitshow, and that's how lots of folks will be getting to this store. And that's assuming the tpk isn't a parking lot, I always check traffic before taking it to Bayonne. Here's some extreme traffic nerdgasm I just ran across. "Contraflow Left" at 5:40 seems the best solution for that intersection.

I grew up near that chromium dump (440) and the traffic has been horrendous as long as I can remenber. I wouldn't go to 440/communipaw to get something for free.

They need a bridge either over 440 or communipaw. JC should have that negioated and paid for as part of the skyway project

I guess they will kill two birds with one toll. I see private buses and jitneys with NY plates over at the Bayonne Walmart a lot. Who would have thought there would be shopping excursions to Bayonne NJ.

Why would Staten Islanders go there and pay $11 for the bridge rather than go to the Costco on Richmond Ave by the SI Mall? It is shocking there's no WM on SI, but they might as well head over the least busy bridge.
Re BJ's: it's a pale wannabe of Costco, so poorly run by comparison. I could go on and on why, but just look at the fact they couldn't make the concession stand work, and opened a DD right next to the one in ShopRite. The concession in Costco is always mobbed.

Reality check: it will be packed.
The Costco in Clifton; always packed - weekends don't go there. WalFart in Bayonne = Packed. BJ's in DTJC = empty

(Here?s the nj.com piece. I like to go to the Willow Brook Mall once and a while. You can hardly get into the actual mall because of the lines of traffic going to Costco and their gas station pumps. I don?t know how close a Costco is to the Bayonne Bridge in Staten Island if there isn?t one around they will be hitting the Bayonne one like they do the Walmart.)
Construction on Costco and 500-unit apartment complex now underway on MOTBY Updated Apr 12; Posted Apr 12 http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... king_ceremonies_on_m.html ?The warehouse store will include more than 700 parking spaces, as well as eight gas pumps, officials said. It is expected to open before Thanksgiving, Davis said.? .

Some bean counter decided cheap rent and local financing by BCB (an incompetently run bank btw) compensated for terrible demographics. This store will never have an always packed parking lot like Teterboro.

What a stupid ass place to put it on the butt end of the peninsula!! That's hardly closer than Clifton or Teterboro for DT and Hoboken, the 100k people in the county with the most disposable income. 440 or 1-9 would have been so much smarter. Justy look at the map, no one is going to cross the Bayonne bridge or the 78 bridge to shop this store.
