+1 Strong turnout should work against the Healy team. Their voting block is probably pretty fixed. It's going to be the people upset with the status quo who decide late in the game to vote who could make the difference. At least that's my hope...

Does anyone know the hours for voting on Tues - the NJ Elections web site indicates 6 am - 8 pm for other upcoming elections (McNair high school is my polling place). I'm assuming it's the same for Tues?

No you do not hang out with the wrong crowd! Remember this Tuesday the winner needs 50% + 1 which quite simply means that for everyone who comes out to vote and who votes for someone other than Healy causes that much more of a probable runoff election. If it is a large turnout I believe the incumbent will have a very difficult time. Get out and vote your choice of candidate.

Ha! Ditto K-Lo.
I still think Levin stands a chance of a run-off with Healy, but Tuesday will tell all.

Everyone expects Healy to win, yet I know no one who is voting for him. I guess I hang out with the wrong crowd.

It will be awesome when the election is over and all these anti-Healy trolls just go away. I am not voting for him, but if he wins the butthurt around here will be monumental.

From CBS880:
Posted: Friday, 08 May 2009 3:19PM Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy Will Run Again NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Political experts say the race for mayor of New Jersey's second-largest city features some familiar faces and is likely to have a familiar outcome. They expect Jersey City Mayor incumbent Jerramiah Healy to ride his $3.1 million campaign war chest to victory on Tuesday. Francis Moran, a political science professor at New Jersey City University, says Healy hasn't hurt himself badly enough to lose. Montclair State University political science professor Brigid Harrison says the crowded field of five candidates works against leading challenger Louis Manzo by dividing the anti-Healy vote. The 58-year-old Healy has been mayor since winning a special election to serve out the remaining term of Glenn Cunningham, who died in office in 2004. http://www.wcbs880.com/Jersey-City-Mayor-Will-Run-Again/4360962

Are there independent polls out, (what is the Jersey Journal for?)
I'm voting for whoever has the best chance of beating Healy.

IMHO, the only person who really stands a chance against the Healy Machine is Manzo. As much as I like what Levin stands for, it's going to take at least another 4 years for people to take notice (throughout the city). The most likely outcome, will be a run-off between Manzo and Healy. Unfortunately, money is what decides elections and Healy has spent millions in an attempt to make people forget the last 4 years..........

I agree with you WG, but sadly "them" is us. Fewer than 25,000 people voted last time? That's outrageous! I don't know the exact number, but if I prorate the Hudson County voter turnout last November, there are more than 100,000 registered voters in Jersey City, so 75% of the people gave their tacit approval of status quo last election - they are "Them". (Okay, there are probably several thousand registered voters who should be purged from the rolls, but you get the point.) Given all that is at stake over the next four years, including: A looming real estate revaluation Bloated municipal budget during a recession The need to address the school situation and greater local funding responsibility for the schools it shocks me that people can't find ten minutes out of the fifteen hours the polls are open to get out and vote. Clearly there won't be long lines if historical turnout is any indicator. Much, much more is at stake next Tuesday (with far greater personal consequences) than voting for the President or even your Senator or Congressman. Them will continue to be Them as long as We continue to be We. So for God's sake: GET PEOPLE OUT TO VOTE!!

Honestly, I don't know. But I'd like to see Dan Levin put in a good fight. It sounds lame, but I think JC could do with a little political optimism- so I'm voting on priciple...show them we're ready for something different.

The results you show were for the special election that was to fill a 6 month term.. That election was held on Nov 12th 2004 and was during a Presidential, Congressional and Senate election as well.
This is the results from the May 2005 primary: (very weak voter turnout) I think the totals were about 25,000 ish The numbers below are 95% of the precincts reporting Jerramiah Healy----- 18,329---- 75.08% Melissa Holloway---- 4,638----- 19.00% Alfred Marc Pine----- 1,420----- 5.82% Personal Choice----- 27------- 0.11%
