I take my stuff down to the scrap metal recycling in Camden run by SIMS. It processes ferrous and non-ferrous metals and even deals in light iron and car bodies. Take a look at http://us.simsmm.com/Locations/New-Jersey/Camden-NJ. They have their centers all over NJ, in Deptford, Jersey City, and Newark.

Close to Downtown the better. I've got some copper lying around that needs to get out of my kitchen.

Cinelli Scrap Metal (201) 333-8209 275 Broadway, Jersey City

I posted this once before..this is the place where those junk guys in pickup trucks go to sell their treasures. It is at the foot of Broadway kind of across from the Wilson Carpet Guy. They have a huge pile of scrap maybe if you tell them you are an artist they will let you ?dump? dive.

Good luck.

They are the ones JCIA calls when you call JCIA. Don't know if they drag stuff downstairs, but they are very nice guys and everyone has their price...

You will need to go to a junk yard or auto salvage yard. Most scrap yards/recyclers are in the business of buying metal, not selling it to the public.

Is the metal scrap yard on the end of Jersey Avenue by Morris Canal still open? I thought it closed down recently. Does anyone know of another metal scrap yard around Jersey City?

Do any of these places actually let you scrounge in this litigious age? The Town of Southold dump, where my folks used to take their garbage, stopped letting people scrounge years ago for safety reasons.

oh thanks. needing metal gears for an upcoming art project and just wanted to find places to get them. Got a couple at a flea market, but feel like smashed up metal might be a better place to look.

There is one behind Jersey City Medical Center off Jersey Ave, and a really big one in by Greenville Yards, called Hugo Neu/sims.

I know there is a metal scrap yard in Jersey City, seen the trucks driving around on trash day loaded with random metal pieces. Where is this? Anyone know anything about it? Could i go there and purchase or find items? Any info is helpful.

Thanks
