He's not talking about acid etching, he's talking about stamp concrete, which is no more expensive to do than the cost of the template.

Concrete actually cracks relatively easy an acid etching would be really expensive

They need to ticket those people every time. You need to buy your crap at the .99 store? Put a quarter in a meter like the rest of us and stop taking up the sidewalk.

One more modern alternative is actually concrete with dye and a pattern imprinted on it. Its basically a regular concrete sidewalk that has been colored and that has brick like grooves in it.

Not to mention you need something that can withstand the weight of cars and vans, which like to hop up onto the sidewalk to park or stand.

you say that now but in 5 years when they are busted up from the icing and thawing and the trees you will hate them. You need something that is not so brittle and you can have smaller gaps. You just need enough for expansion and contraction.

I like Brunswick being all torn up. It makes crossing that street so much easier without the cars zipping by at 55mph.

I wish that they would use red brick pavers for the sidewalks. It sounds trivial, but it makes all the difference in the world, and really encourages pedestrians to walk there. Concrete cracks eventually, and becomes dark with grime and dirt, and is just much less pleasant looking.

I just get wary when cities start a project. Brunswick was torn up about 2 weeks ago. They did a great job on the corners but have yet to return to repave. I lived off Washington Square Park in Manhattan and they tore the street up 5 time. The street was 1 block long. Gas company came 1st. Repave. Telephone came next. Repave. Cable came next repave. I get a lil nervous when they do not return. as I sit know cars are driving left to right to avoid the manhole covers.

Right on. The same folks kvetching about the lack of notice to get HP started (finally!!!) will be the first ones complaining about the length of the construction process.

I hope all the businesses and residents have been properly notified, so they don't have to stop for 2 weeks, like Hamilton Park....

Why are they not tearing up the whole sidewalk? I just walked past and parts are dug up to store fronts and other parts have been left alone. Seems odd. Now when do they tear up the street. Anyway I am looking forward to the repairs.

This is great news!!! There is alot going on in the downtown area: Newark Ave redevelopment, Hamilton Park redevelopment, roads are being ripped up and repaved, new trees are popping up everywhere and of course, new housing/buildings being built all around us! I like the changes and pride being put into our community.

Alex C, it looks like that will not be happening. The Fulop plan does not call for closing off any portion of Newark to traffic at this time.

Any progress on the proposal to turn parts of Newark Avenue into a pedestrian-only section?
I think this would greatly improve that section. To me it doesn't make any sense for motorists to drive that way.
