I believe there is a proposal for a Stevens Institute designed bridge that is "out there", do not recall details, maybe a float bridge....maybe some web seaching can find it.

I know this is an odd idea -- but there are hand cranked or more common motorized chain ferries -- these boats just go back and forth on a chain that sinks to the bottom so boats can pass. The down side with the hand crank type is that one must sometimes wait a little while till someone brings it over from the otherside but the motor operated chain ferries can cross back even when empty with the touch of a button.

Consider the fact that anything but a drawbridge would require closing Liberty Marina, a source of cash for somebody (who?), and be millions of dollars regardless, and you'll give up your dream. $2 is a bargain by comparison, and you pay it, not the Brokeass city.

Good point. I usually run along the pedestrian walkway as far north as I can, which usually involves stopping at the locked gates near the Holland Tunnel ventilation tower and starin at Hoboken in the distance. Is it really supposed to take that long to continue the walkway? It would be sweet to be able to run all the way into Hoboken along the river.

Now if we can also figure out a way to continue the walkway south from the Colgate clock into LSP... (taking a $2 ferry ride is ridiculous and detouring up to Jersey Ave. is far!!)

I hope they don't introduce a toll to cross and the bridge isn't some cheap nasty looking crap!

Bridge to bridge will be great, if you take the Staten Island ferry you could ride this whole long circle route around NYC's waterfront for free.

Construction of the bridge will begin later this fall, with completion expected in spring 2009.

I don't know if you need to worry about double-wide strollers, but you definitely need to worry about double-wide neighborhood association leaders.

The article sets a new record for political-puff-quote to actual reporting ratio.
