Daniel Tailor appears to charge different amounts based on whim. Be warned.

OneSkirt, I used Lisa Best to alter a bridesmaid dress for me last fall -- taking up straps and hemming the skirt. I think she charged me $100 for everything and I had no qualms leaving my expensive dress in her capable hands.

She's in Hoboken, about a 5-10 minute walk from the PATH station. Her number is 917-609-1047.

Daniel has altered many articles of clothing, including a leather coat. I've never had a problem.

I'm looking for a tailor/seamstress to work on a formal gown. The alteration isn't terribly complicated. It has thin straps that need to be taken up (I would need to try it on there and have them mark the length). However, I want someone who will be careful with the gown as its got beading (they don't need to sew any beaded areas, just be careful).

Any suggestions?

note: when Daniel shortened my sleeves he did it in a way that eliminated the actual working buttons and cuff "slit". This was not revealed ahead of time. I got them back and wasn't annoyed enough to complain, but it should have been disclosed. For the price I'd probably do it again but it's not the "ideal" way to tailor...it's an ok shortcut.

For future reference if anyone else has this question, it costs $25 at Daniel Tailor. He's taking it up from the cuff, not the shoulder which I imagine would cost a lot more. I'm pleasantly surprised with the price.

Anyone have any idea what this might set me back? If nobody knows I'll post here once I found out from him in person for future reference.

I had a sports coat adjusted last year (it had to be taken in around the pectoral and waist area) and the good people at Daniel's did a GREAT job. The jacket now fits as it had been custom made. It was $25 (or, less?) and worth every penny. For something like sleeves, I would think they can get it done for $15, or less. Definitely check with them.

A third vote for Daniel. Good workmanship at very reasonable prices.

second for Daniel but what are you needing done? Depending on the job, 150 might not be unreasonable.

What's ballpark pricing for Decarlos? Do they ever run 3 for XX specials on shirts or offer any kind of pants/suits bundles? I know some of the M2M tailors can charge 70-100 for shirts and 150-200 for pants, so I'm assuming he'd be slightly higher?

And I dont blame him. If you only need pants hemmed go to literally anyone else in the area. No need to go to a bespoke tailor for a job any grandmother can do.

That aside, I've gone to Danny on Grove to hem jeans using the orginal cuff and had the same pair tapered a bit. They came out perfect.

I've used Medical Center tailors for a couple years, good work and good prices. He transformed 3 pairs of JOS A Bank pants (from a 3 suits for the price of 1 deal I never should have bought) from MC Hammers to bespoke.

Looking for an inexpensive tailor to hem three pairs of pants; one pair of jeans that will retain the original hem. Any suggestions?

Stay away from Fells Cleaners on Warren Street. Messed up a small job and WAY, WAY overcharge.

Anyone have a recommendation for a tailor downtown who can do a proper repair job on jeans? Preferably someone who can do darning and match the color rather than just sewing a patch in. A good place is able to repair a hole so the threads blend and it's barely noticeable. There's great options in Manhattan that specialize in denim repair but the wait is typically 2-3 weeks.

I had great luck with Daniel's Professional Tailoring at 299 Grove St. I think it was $10 for each pair, but one was a pair of jeans, and it was only about $5 to keep the original hem.

I have not had good experiences with tailors in JC, but the two in JC that I would recommend is DeCarlos Bespoke located dtjc but not that cheap but very good. The other is West Indian American Tailor Shop in BL which is great and not very expensive. I work near Chinatown which is the best of the best when it comes to service and price.
