Re: The Beacon

The area surrounding the beacon is not going to change for quite some time; the benefit for young professionals living in an urban area is public transportation and proximity to services/retail. McGinley Square provides neither, except if you're going to live off wonderbagels. The Beacon reminds me of the Green Zone in Iraq, people were whisked to and from in the shuttle but no one dared leave the compound.

I lived in m650 and the place is a dump; crumbling poor construction and a parking system that is always broken. Avoid the area at all costs.

Building a tower larger than the one currently there, that took years to occupy, would be a strange move by GS. I wonder if the zoning had occurred as part of their initial strategy to have a larger presence/campus in JC. That strategy never came to fruition which is why they now have their West St tower across the river.

Or some enterprising person could rent it out and then put it on AirBnB for let's say $700-800 a night or just rent rooms by the night and live there for free. Not a bad hotel room for that kind of money. Any takers?

Too bad this is too late to take advantage of the Super Bowl profiteering...

Clifton actually makes more sense to me for corporate housing than the heights. What makes this listing so confusing is it's not cheaper than NYC and it's in an undesirable area right next to it - why wouldn't you just get a rental in the city if you're going to spend that much a month?

That was basically my point, you just made it much more succinctly than I was able to.

Here is the Zillow listing. If the place is indeed the way it looks in the picture, someone may be willing to pay that price. Most likely, as corporate housing for high level executives who come into town for brief stays.

Doubt many "high level executives" are staying in the heights. That's a knock on the neighborhood but more on the time it would take to commute to anywhere. Corporate jets can be luxurious but, more importantly, they're the most efficient way to travel. When you're paying someone high six to seven figures, you're not having them waste time getting around.

Huh? From midtown to this location is about 30 minutes driving, unless you have some major delays at either tunnel. There are very few places to which you can get from midtown in 30 minutes. And, since you bring up the topic of corporate jets, do you realize that MOST corporate jets fly out of Teterboro? That's also 30 minutes away from this property. Very few corporate jets fly out of the main airports in the area (too much traffic, and too much hassle) so they operate out of Westchester County Airport (HPN) and Teterboro (TEB) with a few choosing Linden.

Well, if you have a corporate residence in midtown, you're already in midtown. And you're not living in the heights. I know that most corporate jets fly out of TEB; did you know that the passengers mostly arrive in cars straight from midtown, not coming from places in the heights?

I'm not putting this place down, it looks like a nice house. You wonder if they had a reality show in mind when they were renovating it. But to suggest that it would be used as a corporate residence for executives is ridiculous.

I'm wondering if the older Carrino is involved in all this. I believe it's his company and most of the assets are his, not his son's.

Kitchen Cousins File for Bankruptcy

The co-hosts of HGTV?s ?Kitchen Cousins? home improvement show filed for personal bankruptcy last week after an unfavorable ruling was issued against them alleging they did a shoddy renovation on a home once owned by former New York Yankee Don Mattingly.

John Colaneri, of Ramsey, and Anthony Carrino, filed separately in Newark Aug. 4 after they lost an $860,000 award in favor of homeowners Robert and Peng Avery, NorthJersey.com reported.

The Averys sued Colaneri, Carrino, and Carrino?s Brunelleschi Construction for breach of contract, fraud, and other wrongdoing related to the alleged renovation, the report states.

I've used Medical Center tailors for a couple years, good work and good prices. He transformed 3 pairs of JOS A Bank pants (from a 3 suits for the price of 1 deal I never should have bought) from MC Hammers to bespoke.

There are plenty of people who have legitimate issues with the carrino's. It is personal to former clients that they were forced to deal with this shitty business.

I never got a chance to see the deleted posts but it's not trolling if you're voicing your displeasure and warning others of their inability to perform quality work (e.g., a roof that streams, not leaks, water into a building after ~1 year.)

There are so many better places with true amenities that you can rent in JC, it's obvious that people who know the area know better...

I have nothing to do with this building or its businesses but I do thoroughly enjoy a good JC-list long read. There seems to be some funny business going on on this thread. A few 1st time jclist-posters with negative things to say. Anti-shill. I mentioned earlier that it sounds like someone is butthurt with the owners. Seems fishy.

They're terrible builders and terrible people. I know this from experience. Just because I stumbled on this site and thread today doesn't make my opinion any less valid. I'm not teaming with anyone else to smear them; I'm stating my experience in dealing with these clowns.

Also - where else have you commented on this thread?
