Re: Tailor - alterations

OneSkirt, I used Lisa Best to alter a bridesmaid dress for me last fall -- taking up straps and hemming the skirt. I think she charged me $100 for everything and I had no qualms leaving my expensive dress in her capable hands.

She's in Hoboken, about a 5-10 minute walk from the PATH station. Her number is 917-609-1047.

Re: Progressive Catholic Church in Jersey City?

I found Our Lady of Czestochowa to be relatively progressive and very welcoming. They, as part of the Catholic Church, don't support gay marriage, but they are definitely welcoming to gay people. The pastor, Fr. Tom, is really nice as well, and has a focus on doing good works for the poor in our community.

Their website is here

Went for dinner tonight...everything was really tasty! My husband really liked the salmon rice ball; my favorite was the Cuban. And the potato salad was delicious.

Prices were pretty reasonable...we got 5 rice balls, potato salad, and an iced tea for $26.

We'll definitely be back.

You might want to check before buying a pass for the park & ride lot at Liberty State Park. I called and asked about overnight parking a while back, and I was told they do not allow it.

I went to Sportscare in Hoboken after I messed up my ankle last summer, and they were wonderful. They dealt with a lot of sports injuries (mine, however, was just from being a klutz).

They have a few locations in Hudson County, including one in JC, but the Hoboken location is 1/2 block away from the PATH, so it was easy to get there on the train, especially before and after work. The JC location wasn't as convenient for me.

Here's their site: http://www.sportscare1.com/

Re: Greenpoint's WORD Bookstore coming to Jersey City

I am just excited to have a new bookstore in JC! Symposia and Tachair are both used bookstores, and therefore don't have the selection that a place like WORD will offer (and does offer, in BK).

As mentioned, WORD is remarkably well-curated and staffed by passionate, knowledgeable booksellers, and I'm really excited to have a local place to buy a new hardcover I've been waiting for, instead of shlepping it home from a B&N in Manhattan or ordering from Amazon.

I am a parishioner at OLC, and I really like it there. It's a very diverse community, and fairly progressive for a Catholic church. My husband (not Catholic) and I did our marriage prep at OLC with Fr. Tom, and he was great to work with. And even though I don't go every week, I always feel welcome when I walk in the doors.
