Perfect example of why we shouldn't prematurely assign storm names to tropical systems.

Glad it is just Irma. Accuweather is saying Saturday night & Sunday we will likely get Harvey Rain as it moves up and out. Thanks!

Irma.. if it reaches enough strength to get a name.

The maps below are 24 hours.. not 4 hours.. typo.

Right now the updated models are showing it going more out to sea. Just some rain for us with whatever left over from Harvey adding to the rain totals.

Was hoping to go fluke fishing from Ocean City MD this Sunday. Do these charts mean I should be planning something else?

Thanks MDM, this information can still be useful for those who have relatives, friends etc along the lower part of the eastern seaboard.

Speaking of hurricanes:

Rockport mayor pro tem: Those who don't evacuate should mark Social Security number on their arm

The mayor pro tem in the coastal city of Rockport, Texas had a grim message for residents in his city ahead of Hurricane Harvey?s arrival:

Those who don?t evacuate the city should prepare for the worst by writing their name and social security number on their arm.

?Those that are going to stay -- it?s unfortunate -- but they should make some type of preparation to mark their arm with a Sharpie Pen,? said Rockport Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Rios. ?Put their social security number on it, and their name.?

If it did develop, it would not have been premature.. What you're really saying is MDM should be a fortune teller...

It is currently an unnamed storm with not one mention on local news. Yes, MDM is usually good with updates but this one is a bit premature. I don't worry about flooding as I live in the Heights.

You either don't understand what "hype" really is or you never have been impacted by flooding in JC. MDM's posts are always informative and helpful for those residents who prefer notice of a potential storm earlier rather than later.

I agree. A little early to hype an unnamed storm.

+1- MDM is awesome - storm info has always been very helpful in pre-planning for my business.

Downtown is a bowl in the back as well. Ever hear of Harsimus Creek? Go look at the tracks under Newark Ave by the cemetery. It's a perpetual pond over there.

The updated GEM model shows Irma now not making landfall. Still shows it as a might big-ass storm awfully close to the cost.
So if this model is correct, surfers will be happy.

Imagine what downtown Jersey City flooding would be like with that amount of rain!

Most models are showing it forming off of Cape Hatteras, then turning out to sea. The GEM model (Environmental of Canada) shows it slamming into South Jersey as a Cat 2.

The guys over at Weatherbell are not discounting this possibility, as the storm could get dragged west from interaction with the hurricane that is presently on course to hit Texas. If the remains of the Texas hurricane head Northeast, then the GEM model becomes more of a possibility.

Screenshot of the GEM model below and what the other models are showing:
