I do believe though that the legalization of marijuana issue which Sweeney and a couple of other pols are positing has replaced the casino idea.

The revenue from this move will be astronomical with quite a bit less effort overall.

TRENTON — New Jersey voters Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected a controversial proposal to expand casino gambling to the northern part of the state, meaning Atlantic City will retain its four-decade monopoly on gaming. 

The ballot question failed in what could likely be one of the largest margins of defeat for any referendum in New Jersey history. 

The referendum, which would have amended the state constitution to allow two casinos to be built at least 72 miles north of Atlantic City, was also one of the more unusual ones the state has ever seen.

It sparked fierce arguments across the state, drew a record amount of spending among interest groups for and against the idea, and the group supporting the plan  — Our Turn NJ — ended its ad campaign more than a month before Election Day when polling looked dismal.

The $4 billion luxury complex, the brainchild of billionaire Reebok founder Paul Fireman, would potentially be located at 100 Caven Point Road – which is south of Liberty State Park and between an industrial area and Liberty National Golf Course.

The website says that the project would not disrupt residential areas near LSP or impact traffic on the Jersey City waterfront and would also provide easy access to the NJ Turnpike and Manhattan

I pass by this area all the time biking. There is only a relatively small space between the "marina", the golf-course and the monorail. It is also next to a roundabout. I can't see a complex built there without impacting a few of these. On top of that, the lights would definitely be in full view of the the nature reserve. Increased traffic into LSP would also be likely if this absurdity is built. Let's have another Sandy to flood the lot and end it all.

I don't see anyone on the "no" side that could match the developers and unions contributing in support of this.
