well , all the companies in the area will send someone to write how good they are but why not letting a screening service present you with the top rated moving companies in your area?

We ended up contacting HoneyMovers and Adam was great. It seems like the best option so far. We have someone coming tomorrow (at 6:45 a.m.!) to do an estimate from L and L. It's nice to know that there are a fair number of non-crap moving companies in the area. They're usually tough to come by. Thank you for the recommendations, all!

I plan on calling soon. Do you mind me asking when you're moving? I have never used movers before and wasn't sure how much time we should allow for reserving them. We are moving 6/29.

We're moving on June 15. We had a couple of folks come in to do estimates (L and L was particularly good, too). But I think we're going to go with HoneyMovers.

We used Vector movers for a move within JC last month and they were absolutely horrible. Their 5-star yelp reviews are deceptive and we could not have had a worse experience with them. They forgot about our appointment, scrambled another crew that showed up 2 hours late, damaged our furniture and then tried to blame us for it, and finally refused to speak with or deal with my wife simply because she was a woman. I generally avoid trashing a company / restaurant over a poor experience but these guys were beyond the pale. Stay away!

Why don't you try Goshare. They're the Uber of moving and charge $1.29 per minute subject to a $35.00 minimum. I've used them for small moves and whenever I buy something from Home Depot that won't fit in my car. You can download the app on I Phone or Android.

Does anyone have any experience working with a mover who doesn't really have to "move" via a truck? (Happily we're moving FROM a 5th floor walk up to a ground level apartment this time.)

Bustjc, it looks like Honeymovers just does the loading/unloading or packing/unpacking?

Suzy I am sure they will help you with that type of move.. Call and speak to Adam he will definitely help you figure it out and they are excellent!

201-668-6845 but yeah they focus on people that rent a truck or close moves.

Moving with a flat dolly such a short distance can be incredibly easy and efficient. You might even be able to get it all done in a relatively short amount of time if you have two or three adults to do the carting of items and furniture down from your walkup to the street level. The one downside to using dollies for moving a half block away is the amount of time consumed making multiple round trips, but even that can be seen as an advantage. After each trip, you will have time to organize furniture, and put away any packed items. So, by the time you are done moving, you are actually done, and not left in a mess of boxes everywhere that still need to be moved around to get things put away and organized.

These guys do some state to state although I am not sure about Florida. They are the best movers I ever dealt with.

I've used L&L three times and they have been fantastic every time They offer very reasonable estimates that are actually accurate. They staff the move appropriately and have ended every move in the time frame they gave me. Highly recommend them.

I second these guys! Excellent work, very fast and reasonable prices. For a charge by the hour company, they do not waste time at all. And they were very friendly with great humor - made my move pleasant, and moving is never fun!

I'm so happy to hear that L&L are still great! they moved me three times, doing a fantastic job each move, but I haven't had to use them (knock wood) in the last 8 years.

I'll chime in here and recommend All Wrapped Up. Jason and Jill (the owners) have moved us THREE times, and each time they were stellar! Their pricing is competitive, their crew is conscientious and they work quickly and efficiently. The second time we moved we had them help to pack up our stuff (we learned the value of this after trying to do so ourselves during our first move) and it was worth every penny to have that sort of expertise to help everything go smoothly. Good luck!

My Yelp review on them:
We used L&L Movers in Hoboken a few weeks ago and had an excellent experience! They were on-time/early, incredibly efficient and careful with our things, and were really nice guys with great senses of humor to boot. Its not often you get that last part, which made a yucky job a truly good experience. They were also great communicators and worked with me to explain the sequence of how they wanted to move things out when I asked, and asked how I could best be of help to them (even if just to stay out of their way).

I wish I could recall the forman's name - but the crew included Brian. That's the crew you want - they were superb. I also like that they bill by the hour and there are no extra charges for junk like wrapping glass, packing your tv safetly, or safely stowing art in the truck.

They are cash only, but many of the hourly moving companies are. They came in well under the estimated 8-9 hr. window they gave us (5.5 - 6 hours is what it took).

Tommy's Movers 201-656-5030.

I've used them twice and recommended them countless times. Every time it has been professional and well done.
