Agree with all the enthusiastic reviews. I've eaten there twice in one week. The lamb chops were superb and perfectly done and seasoned, and the moussaka is indeed fantastic. They don't have a big menu, but what they do, they do very well. The staff is is so warm and welcoming, too.

Never tried Dolma but heard great things! They do lunch delivery too I believe. They were cold calling local businesses offering their menus. I'll have to give it a try next week

A friend and I stopped in for lunch today (the first visit for me) and it was TERRIFIC!

Had carrot ginger soup and the burekas, both delicious!

I hope it was only an anomaly (since it's shortly before the holidays and folks are trying to save money), but we were the only customers in there during the time that we dined :(

I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant, this is truly a gem, the owner and the staff are lovely, the food is wonderful, healthy and fresh, it deserves our support!

My route to and from the PATH takes me past Dolma and I've been wondering about that place for years. I've only seen it open a handful of times, unless they're open with the door closed and no sign indicating that. I wish them good luck but I've never seen such poor marketing in the way of signage or any marketing. I didn't even know it was a restaurant, let alone the type of cuisine, until I noticed a recent larger sign and the review. The sign must be recent. However, I could be wrong (and apologies in advance if so) as riding on my bike on the street of death keeps my mind occupied elsewhere.

Dolma Another New Jersey City Gem

By | November 18, 2016

Jersey City, where I grew up, has become a dining destination. While I have fond memories of the Canton Garden, Greenspans, Miss America Diner (still open), downtown Jersey City, which we never ventured to in those days, now has many neighborhood gems. One we recently discovered is Dolma on Grand Street.

This is a very small, 22-seat BYO restaurant so be sure to make a reservation. The limited menu is interesting with Eastern Mediterranean dishes offered, such as baked eggplant and feta; grilled octopus; spinach and feta borek teamed mussels and cockles in a fennel and raki broth with spicy Turkish sausage; and grilled fenugreek rubbed lamb chops.

I have been to Dolma twice for brunch and on Friday night we went for dinner.

1st Brunch (2 people)-
Turkish Poached eggs, Brioche French toast, little muffins, and coffee
Atmosphere was warm an staff was attentive
Food was outstanding
10/10

2nd brunch (4 people)
Basket of pastries, 3 Turkish Poached eggs, 1 Brioche French toast, and coffee

Again atmosphere was warm an staff was attentive
Food was outstanding
10/10

Dinner- this past Friday (2 people)
Starter
Grilled octopus- SO tender, and the pickled vegetable that accompanied it were delicious (best octopus I have ever tasted even better than octopus that I have had in Greece and Spain)

Entrees
Grilled Hanger Steak Kebab- Perfectly cooked, well seasoned and the parsnip puree with it is addictive

Grilled Lamb Chops with ?Dirty? Pilaf- Perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and the currants and spices in the dirty pilaf perfectly paired with the lamb

Dessert
Creme Brulee- creamy and not overly sweet

Entire Meal 10/10

BYOB
We got our wine at Cool Vines, just a heads up if you swing by Dolma first they give you a 10% coupon for Cool Vines

What I love about Dolma:
I love the intimate atmosphere, the flavorful food, the quality of the ingredients, the care with which each dish is prepared and its BYOB. This place has always been AMAZING for me. If you haven't checked Dolma out yet GO NOW!!!

I have been there and I concur that the meals are excellent and the atmosphere intimate. It is the best egg benedict in town, the way the eggs are prepared and assembled on the cured beef is extremely tasty. The signage is a little small imho so I suspect people are missing this gem which would be unfortunate. Starting brunch there and finishing it at cocoa bakery across the street is something to put on a foodie guide tour...

They have a really nice outdoor terrace which is not open yet but should be really nice in the spring. It's also BYOB which is a huge plus!

Yes! I've had the Octopus appetizer and Lamb Chops main course. It was really good. My daughter had the Mussels and Cockles and it had rice and The place is small (seats about 23), so you have to make a reservation.

BYO a definite plus
