Sparse, homogenous pointillism...so good and so rare in NJ.

I bet you can rest easy now.

Yep, it feels good not having to count sheep anymore.

Delighted to hear it. So when are you moving to that cave in the Mojave?

Not necessarily - you still need to be able to afford where you are most comfortable. If if was as easy as looking at a map, I would be living in Chelsea...

This is a fascinating map and great concept. Would also love to see a map showing country of origin for immigrants.

Unfortunately, xenophobes will probably misuse this map at city-data and other places to promote racial segregation.

Like they can't figure out that Fort Lee is heavily Asian via some other method?

Fort Ree?

Interesting things of note. To the surprise of no one who's been there ever in the past few years, the waterfront is definitely Little Asia. What's left of the large hispanic areas have been reduced to mostly pockets around Villa Borinquen, columbus ave and the row houses along montgomery.

Hoboken. Lol. That border of Bayonne and JC. also lol.

Getting into specifics, what's with the cluster of white people on west side ave and stegman? That green blob on the houses/projects just west of the highway on the north side of montgomery... that seems incorrect, at least from every time i've been in the neighborhood. Definitely an old Philippino hood, but 90%+ seems way wrong. I see a blue dot down in bergen lafayette. Hi, user111!

Society Hill and Country Village look correct.

Stegman and Westside is filled with JC old-timers it is College Towers.

I guess everyone here missed this little footnote at the end of the article:

Notes about this map: The map below does not show the exact locations of every single person in New Jersey. Since the dots are randomly scattered over small areas, it may appear that some people are living in cemeteries or small lakes. To our knowledge, this is not the case.

Question.....in Jersey City down by Society Hill the NJCU athletic field has dots as does the big cemetery down in Marion. How come?
(I can see why the cemetery might have them as dead people have been known to vote in Hudson County but why the athletic field?)

Clearly there's some error in the system, it shows people in the Hoboken rail yards. Fascinating artifact however.

(wow what an interesting map on nj.com)

This map shows the racial makeup of every block in N.J.

By Stephen Stirling | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
on October 15, 2015 at 9:02 AM, updated October 15, 2015 at 9:13 AM

New Jersey's more than 8.9 million residents sure can paint a pretty picture, but it takes more brush strokes than any one of them could muster.

It's no secret that New Jersey is one of the most diverse states in the union, but numbers and charts often don't illustrate exactly what that means very well.

So, over the past several weeks, NJ Advance Media developed a map that seeks to show this a little more clearly.

Our map shows every person that calls the Garden State home -- one dot for each resident (go ahead and count).
