Hopefully it's called something other than White Star.

I was told back in November that they were going to take over La Conguita.

What's being constructed in the south area of Liberty State Park near the admin building near the 13 flag memorial?

I am anticipating the day, with dread, when one of those big chains like Red Lobster or Olive Garden lease one of those big spaces. Why can't some brain power be spent on figuring out how to make some of these into "passages" http://www.theguardian.com/travel/201 ... n-passages-shopping-shops
or something similar

I didn't think those chain restaurants were in the Millennial demographic. All the new businesses and new apt construction is geared toward this group.

Wonderful. So a media company needs to take up 3 store fronts in prime downtown Grove Street? Can someone write a letter to the editor on how lame that is that they are f'ing up our downtown?

So instead of a restaurant, flower shop, popular deli, and a failed store -- we get a bank and an office.

I agree, that this really sucks.

You mean, instead of four failed stores.

Also note that Fulop's vaunted plan to extremely limit chains downtown would not prevent the media company from opening.

Yeah, even if it was a chain, it's part of that large building, so would not fall under that. I'm just baffled why that media company thinks it's a good idea to take 3 store fronts that likely have very high rents.

I thought it was common knowledge that a branch of the Paris-based unisex clothier, Buy Curieuse, was opening in JC Made.

Walked past it the other day. Appears to be street-level offices for NJ.com. That could be interesting. If I'm not mistaken, they own the Jersey Journal, which in turn put the "Journal" in "Journal Square."

Shell gas station on 12th Street between Erie and Manila: they're doing some sort of repairs to their gas tanks, something to do with it being state mandated repairs. Don't know the entire story but that's what's happening.

I'm also curious what's happening on the lot at 13th & Jersey, has anyone heard anything? They're pile driving and moving along quickly but I can't find info on what it's going to be?

Re: Shell station Erie and 12th:

Given the location it's probably an upgraded gas station like the Gulf across Erie St.

Unfortunately, fairly close to being finished has little bearing on how close they are to OPENING. Ask any number of restaurants that have opened in recent times (say, the last five years).

I am so hoping they name the place Eerie Burger. The little beauty salon would make a nice small dining room if it became available.

2 questions.

1. I am not surprised the city makes it hard for businesses to open but how does this benefit the city to have less businesses open? wouldnt they receive more in taxes from a surviving business than a few inspections or permits?

2. Also, I would assume its legal to have a phone or camera out in the open during an inspection to use as evidence if requirements change over time. An exposed camera as opposed to a hidden one may straighten up a few inspectors who are on the fence of being corrupt. Is this not doable?

Anyone have info on what's under construction at the NE corner 1st and Erie?

I've heard rumors of a burger place but was curious if anyone had any more details or an ETA.

When did Mr. Bubbles close? I was there a few days ago.

I took the beater car to the remaining Mr. Bubbles on Grand yesterday, and spoke with the owner. He told me he shut down the Communipaw location because the business had been severely impacted by the extra traffic caused by the Pulaski construction. As there will be several more years of construction affecting his business he decided to close it down.

I'm assuming that either the parking lot or one of the vacant lots will be the location of the new building.

I got the same letter, and I wondered why 4 stories with only 3 units? Is the ground floor a garage?

Perhaps the top unit will be a two-story unit?

Only 3 units on that entire lot? Or was that a typo that meant 30?

no, it is not the candy factory...it is in between cast iron and the garden store...it is new construction
