Twitter suggests that the outage covers most of the City. Sounds like the Heights are also dark.
Aren't there supposed to be redundancies in place?

Sirens are basically mandatory responses to alarms going off due to loss of power.

Just read on FB that it was a transformer fire. PSEG is (supposedly) promising power back by 9:45.
Apologies if I'm spreading rumors or raising false hopes.

just lost power in Harsimus Cove (5th & Jersey). Hearing sirens. Anyone know what's up?
Been in this house 6 years and never lost power for more than a minute other than Sandy, and that wasn't 24 hrs. Crazy.
