Big Chef, La Conguita Restaurant & Hard Grove has been here since I have been here. I did not know the rest of the city back then, I lived in my DTJC bubble.

You can get from the Heights to DTJC very easily using the Jitneys. They go down Palisade to the Grove St PATH Station, and beyond to the mall.
Uber is also making transportation within JC much more convenient. Quote:

Don't forget Presto's, which has been around as long as I have been here (14+ years). There are quite a few others that have been here long term.

Increasingly, I feel like Jersey City is a tale of two cities - DTJC, where all of this is happening, and everywhere else, where nothing ever seems to change...
For me, since it's easier to get to midtown Manhattan from the Heights than it is to get to DTJC (there is only the 8, which runs hourly) the chefs may as well stay in Manhattan.

I'm a regular at the Light Horse and Edward's Steakhouse, but I'm pretty sure they didn't start up before 2004.

Not sure if you're addressing me, but my point was to play the game of naming restaurants here longer than 10 years.

Yes, HP Ale House! I couldn't remember the name. I was thinking they just kept the same name under the new management after Maggie went to open Skinner's. Thanks for the clarification

Hamilton Inn has only been there since 2010 or so ... it used to be the Hamilton Park Ale House, a place with much more character and history in my opinion. Was a shame to see that go.
Taqueria has been here since I think 2005-ish, so not quite 10 yet.

This actually sounds like a fun game. I agree that there probably won't be a lot (at least not downtown . Maybe more in other parts of the city?) I'll go with downtown places.

Are Top Chefs Really Fleeing New York for Jersey City?
Restaurants owned by reputable chefs are popping up across the river from the culinary center of the world The Daily Meal November 21, 2014 | 05:53 PM By Joanna Fantozzi, Editor Move over, New York. Jersey City is fighting to become one of the culinary hotspots of the Northeast. But will they succeed? It?s tough to tell, but several chef alums from well-known restaurants in New York like Eleven Madison Park, Momofuku Noodle Bar, Allen & Delancey, and Pork Slope, have made the move to Jersey City to open their own restaurants across the river. In the past 18 months, 10 new restaurants have opened in the New Jersey city on the Hudson, including the rustic French Kitchen at Grove Station by chef David Viana (formerly at Eleven Madison Park and Batello); small plates and ramen caf? Union Republic by chef Gregory Torrech (alum of Resto, Allen & Delancey); Thirty Acres by chef Kevin Pemoulie (formerly of Craftbar and Momofuku Noodle Bar), and the Asian-American restaurant Talde, run by chef Dale Talde (a Top Chef contestant who trained with Masaharu Morimoto and Jean Georges).
