I slowly went over it today in a bimmer 5 series and did not bottom out. It is pretty scary, though. I am all for speed bumps, particularly near schools, but if this one is too large for some cars to safely negotiate, something has to be done.

Hi all -
As it relates to the speed humps that have gone in, I have gotten many complaints about how high they are and questioning if they are in accordance with best practices. I reported those findings to the administration and they have told me the issues will be resolved. Best, Candice

I have no problem speed bumps/humps (except when they make snow removal even more difficult) but the one in questions is too big. I went over this one at below 5mph and it scrapped the front and center of the bottom of my car. I guess most of the people not having trouble have SUVs.

I went over it the other day and was terrified it would mess up my car. I appreciate having a speedbump there but it is WAY too big. And yes, they need to be painted. Reminds me of all the stop signs that went up overnight with no thought put into them. Hopefully they correct this as quickly as they fixed those.

The speed bumps in other towns are painted and not as deep. With all the electronics in cars I actually wonder if JC's speed bumps can cause damage. I do favor speed bumps but for some reasons JC cannot do things well.

I would agree that they need to be painted. With the right level of speed I am sure you can catch air on them lol.... I would be worried about folks loosing control in certain situations as well.

The problem is that the speedbumps were not painted so you can NOT see them at night. I hit one on St. Paul's just after you make the left off of Tonnele Ave getting off 1/9. They are HUGE as well...ridiculous you cannot see these at night..you can't blame this on drivers...

I believe the overall traffic easing plan for DTJC was spearheaded by Candice and then adjusted accordingly from feedback by the appropriate neighborhood associations.

I will start by saying I am pro speed humps - would love to see a few down the entire stretch of Manilla.
The new one they put in (and I would guess there is a second planned by the school) is HUGE... I questioned if my car might bottom out on the apex as it passed between the wheels. It made me bring the car to a near stop to go over it... fine by me. I would love to know what process led to their creation. Was it the school? the HP community association?

FYI, these are speed Humps, not bumps. It's not just semantics either. They're different than speed bumps, and are designed to be as large as you're seeing.
It's pretty simple: slow and your car won't bottom out. Most of them do have signs too, but the rest are coming.

And, even more importantly, no parking should be permitted near intersections. No one can see pedestrians or other cars coming.

They've been putting a few of them up around town. The signs are coming, they just aren't here yet. The size of them is definitely quite large. I've not had an issue with them, but I see a lot of scrapings on the hills.

I do agree that these speed hills are a good way to slow people down, it would have been useful if they had some road markings or sinage warning you of the new road obstacle. There are some pretty major chunks taken out of the road on both sides of the new hump.

I can surmise that voluntary compliance to speed limits via a speed sign isn't working, so the community in that immediate area have requested it. Speed bumps force speeders to slow down or face damage to their vehicles - The community there might see it as an effective way to safeguard their kids, cyclists and slow moving pedestrians at cross walks from speeders !
My neighborhood are doing the same thing and requesting one - we have some real knuckleheads that think speeding through neighborhoods is ok ... some boy racers aren't likely to slow down until they hit someone or something ... we also have commuters zipping through to avoid peak hour queues elsewhere !

Is way to big. Ive seen a dozen cars mess up there front ends hitting it. Also. there are 2 stop signs 300 feet from each other, why do you need a freaking speed bump.
Someone please explain why this oversized hidden unnecessary speed bump exists?
