I have an (A) in my address and it's a pain in the neck especially when the property without the (A) is across the street which has a different Plus-4 zip code. I have to depend on the other house to keep my mail then have an abbsentee landlord and the tenants are not that responsible or even notice the problem. When doing Mapquest or Google maps I just use the nearest house number without a letter of 1/2 in it so the computer will pick it up.

I live at a 1/2 as well. If I used .5, they delivered my packages to 5th street. The one that really won't accept the 1/2 that is most frustrating is Fresh Direct. I like to have my groceries delivered between 6 and 8 am on a weekend and I stand at my window to catch the truck and driver so that they don't wake my neighbor at the whole number address that I have to put in. I do add a note that the actual address is xxx 1/2, but they don't read the notes. I've found a couple of websites that accept 1\2 if the don't accept 1/2.

It CAN be that bad. I have a box at the UPS store in Newport. I like it because you can have packages delivered and it's not a p.o. box and the guys who work there are really nice.

I think that's a bit extreme to do that... it's really not THAT bad. UPS does sometimes deliver next door when it's not the normal driver, and other mail gets to the wrong place sometimes, but it eventually ends up at the right place - the neighbors will be used to getting mail / packages for the 1/2 are normally kind enough to bring it over.

In regards to all the systems that wont accept either a .5 or a 1/2, I've had to call banks and other places and they can figure it out manually.

My largest concern as I mentioned above is with the GPS's. It will honestly take a disaster and 911 deployed to wrong place for any action to fix the addresses... For my address, I'm on York near Grove Street, and most GPS will bring you on York down near the river somewhere...

Thanks for all your comments. I think I'll go with renting a mailbox from PostNet near the Grove Street PATH. Years ago I lived next door to a 1/2 & was always getting his mail & vice versa. Luckily, we were both decent folk & got the mail to the rightful owner.

No, there are 1/2s scattered around the city. Downtown does seem to have the highest concentration of them though.

I am the whole number and my neighbor is the 1/2. I have been delivered all sorts of financial related mail, etc. Were I unscrupulous I imagine I'd have enough information to pull an identity theft. Maybe the halfies should consider a post box or going as paperless as possible.

The misdeliveries usually occur when our regular postie is on vacation, I think because he knows who lives where.

Is DTJC the only part of the city with 1/2 addesses? Just curious.

Whenever I give the address over the phone and they go "Huh? And a half?" I say "yeah... it's a small house." Nobody has ever laughed, not even once.

I must be a minority in that I rarely have problems with mail and packages. If I do, 99% of the time it went to the neighbor. Anyone using GPS just uses the address without the half and they'll get pretty damn close to where they want to be. I like having a half address.

Same problem here. Let alone GPS gets people lost constantly and packages get delivered to the wrong place all the time.

It's only a matter of time before a disaster happens and 911 is deployed to the wrong place. I'm on York St. and every other house is a 1/2.

I agree, I've found most forms accept 1/2. Actually, the one site I know that doesn't accept anything is Victoria's Secret... so I just leave it off. Get to know your neighbor and that'll be your fail-safe.

Its super frustrating! i have the same problem.
What I've found is that 1/2 is more favored by most places then .5

I wonder if we could change it to A or B. thats the only long-run solution, I've ever considered.

Arghhh! ? I just moved to an address with a 1/2 ? and every website I try to update with my new address is a trial. Some take the 1/2, some take the .5, some take the "and a half" & some won't accept any of these.

Any suggestions from other 1/2'ers out there?
