I like the 98 cents a pound red grapes. This is all well and good but I am curious about the country of orgin of the green grown items. I see that garlic is imported from China makes me concerned about health standards.

I wonder if they will have live fish in tanks like the old Foodmart International had (was replaced by the Target store)?

Can't wait to see if they've got the weird stuff my kids like that 555 stopped carrying or Nha Trang had like BBQ fish snack strips or crispy fried anchovies.

Do they have a restaurant inside like 555?

BTW, this is supposed to open up a week from now on the 10th.

I saw the lights on and shelves getting stocked, so I popped my head in and yelled out a hello to get someone's attention. Asked when they'd be open and got that reply.

Here's hoping no more delays!

One thing i have to add though - has anyone noticed how efficient and fast are the cashiers at chinese supermarkets? There are times when I buy tons of stuff, and they're scanning faster than I can bag them.

Where as, at any other store, especially the big box stores, everything is super slow - even though everything is bar coded!!!

THe lines move so much faster at a chinese place!!!

Maybe they're robots.
I find the checker outers at Key Food and WF-Tribeca fast and anglophone.

or so i'm told.

I was also told he is importing all his workers from china, which should make for fun confusion down in that neck of the woods as much of the consumers down there sure aren't chinese. I'm hoping this isn't a colossal failure, but my hopes aren't high.

Supposed to open up in July. Then september. then thanksgiving. then christmas.

No set date yet. I'm calling late spring, early summer. Any takers?

Importing workers is not good let's stop this activity. Also let it be a colossal failure it will teach them a lesson. Being Chinese is not a problem for consumers all they have to do is stock shelves and scan items at the registrer. Have the city officials ask the foreign tounge workers for their papers.

I dont know the western name is but the Chinese name is "mei dong" which may be a combination of the words for America and East. It is a chain if grocery stores in plainsbro, Plainfield, Middletown and Piscataway. The chain already has the jersey city location printed on their shopping bags but I threw out already so not sure of its western name. The store hasn't opened as of last week when I went by it out of curiosity.
