Please stop neverleft, that is a reasonable and well thought out idea. We all know there is no room for reason. Nevermind thoughtfulness.

Here?s a solution?.
Both companies are good at what they do no denying it. Both companies are offering their EMS services free of charge to JC. So just split Jersey City in two at Montgomery Street. JCMC will get everything from Montgomery to Bayonne. McCabe (assuming they will operate out of Christ Hospital) gets everything from Montgomery to Union City. No need for the $2.6 million from McCabe because there shouldn?t be any calls that the JCFD would need to handle being we would have two EMS companies serving the city backing up each other. Also make both companies sign a 7 year free service contract with JC. JC has been paying/ subsidizing the JCMC EMS close to $4 million a year since 2006* . So they owe us around $20 million worth of free service. (we saved the JCMC) *I find that interesting we were paying/subsidizing JCMC EMS millions a year so they could make money from our emergencies. The solution is a win-win for everyone. JCMC EMS keeps a share, McCabe EMS gets a share, JC taxpayers stop subsiding EMS services, JC residents have double/closer EMS coverage.

Don't forget that this is still a CAREPOINT and McCabe bid for the contract. One of Carepoint's owners recently bought Tory Burch's mansion in the Hamptons. Their business model involved cancelling most of their insurance contracts and admitting as many patients through the ER as they can. Their strategy is to bring patients through there so they can bill you as an Out of Network patient.
Why are we giving them the ambulance contract to them unless we want more patients being brought through the emergency room (even OB patients)?

You neglect to mention all 3 hospitals were bankrupt and facing closure unless they found a new business model. Like it or not, the "out of network hospital" model has made them solvent again. Does anyone else notice that, like above, context is missing from most of this discussion? Every city in this country has EMS, yet no one has said what business model is more common in our peer cities. The issue of steering patients is raised by both sides. Sure, JCMC is the area trauma center, but most EMS transports aren't trauma, and certainly could be treated at the other hospitals. Was JCMC actually steering patients away from Christ or Bayonne when it was the closer hospital? I have no idea from the discussion. This whole thing is a mess of hyperbole and rabble rousing making people think the world will end with a change of EMS contractors. I respect many of the people concerned about this, but frankly I love the fact that this was put to bid and JCMC suddenly saw the light and discovered they could live without our $4m. Seems perhaps they were the ones with the sweetheart contract.

Completely flawed process. Few scarier things than McCabe ambulance company (that got dropped by Secuacus for lousy service) being able to run the JC 9-1-1. Are we forgetting how many visitors we're going to have for the SUPER BOWL? Does Mayor Fulop realize HOW embarassing this could all be for Jersey City???

How can McCabe ambulance possibly be ready to take over this contract when they are pursing to hire a significant amount of JCMC EMS employees? They do not have the man power to take over this contract in less 3 weeks and for the city to think that this is possible is absolutely ridiculous. Clearly this motivated strictly by financial reasons and not taking into consideration the lives of the people. But a politician making promises about change for the people and then making a decision based strictly off financial returns should not be a surprise to anyone.

This deal looks like a small play in a much bigger game by CarePoint to fulfill their goal to takeover healthcare services in Hudson County. It is not for the benefit of patients, but for the benefit of their for-profit hospitals. CarePoint purchased Bayonne hospital (a non-profit) and turned it into the most expensive hospital in the country. Now they own Christ Hospital and Hoboken University Medical Center. The deal is one more important step by CarePoint to takeover in Hudson County. $2.6 mil is nothing compared to what they stand to gain at the expense of Jersey City and Hudson County residents. It's a bad deal for Jersey City, but a great deal for CarePoint and for those involved.
I really hope that out council members see the big picture and look at the players. The long term effects of this could be devastating for the residents of Jersey City. If you haven't yet signed the petition to keep JCMC as our EMS responders please take the time. http://www.change.org/petitions/mayor ... rsey-city-s-ems-provider# thanks

Facebook Post 12/17
In recent days, there have been many unsubstantiated allegations by the Jersey City Medical Center administration about McCabe Ambulance. I write to you today to set the record straight. I have worked the streets of Hudson County for 40 years. My company has been the exclusive provider of 911 ambulance service for the City of Bayonne since the early 1980s and has been entrusted by several other cities in Hudson County, the New Jersey Turnpike and Bayonne Bridge. One reason I find Jersey City Medical Center?s criticisms so troubling is because we work side-by-side with them. In fact, McCabe Ambulance has backed up JCMC EMS for the past 25 years in Jersey City. I sincerely hope none of the comments in recent days have come across as condescending to the JCMC EMS staff. In fact, should McCabe Ambulance be awarded the city?s EMS contract, I personally encourage each and every JCMC EMS employee to apply for continued employment with the McCabe family. Our promise of parity with your current salary still stands. And no matter the outcome, McCabe will continue to support the EMTs and paramedics of all of Hudson County. My company will also benefit pocketbooks of Jersey City residents. No longer will the hardworking taxpayers of Jersey City be forced to subside JCMC?s EMS?a $4 million per year savings! And we will continue to be a Hudson County-based company, unlike the Medical Center, which is owned by Barnabas Health, the giant conglomerate from Essex County. I am proud of McCabe Ambulance?s accomplishments, and hope to serve Jersey City for years to come. Please urge the City Council to approve us. H. Mickey McCabe, BS EMT

This is an resolution not an ordinance, meaning you must be on the list of speakers if you want to speak at the council meeting. Please call the city clerk 201-547-5150. You cannot arrive past 6:00 PM and expect to speak unless you are on the list.

The 2.6 million is supposedly to pay for the JCFD cost for being out on first responder calls ...The City or whoever will have to pick up the cost to have ALS available 24hrs (something that already came with JCMC actually provide 2x the amount required by law.. Don t worry in an effort to save money they will now provide the bare minimum as required by law

so are we saying here that the findings of the BLS Evaluation Committee 3-2 in favor of McCabe (plus advise from 3 non-voting members)is somehow flawed?
and the 2.6m payment to the City is to cover ALS services?

JPHurst, You state that based on the JCMC ad's that the Council should know everything they need to know on the bid prior to the initial vote, well the final vote is tomorrow night, but I guess since Mccabe put on their Facebook page that they won the contract already...... So I guess that the only people that will vote against it are Boggiano and Yun!!! Nice that the City Council is going on with this charade since it appears that Mccabe already knows the outcome......... Does the City Council know that Mccabe lost the Secaucus contract due to their failure to maintain 2 Ambulances in that town and could not meet the response time of 8 minutes!!!!!! Not to mention that Mccabe does not have paramedics(ALS) !!! I guess the council believes that the JCMC will provide ALS at no cost!!! So in reality that 2.6 million dollar profit will turn into a loss real quick, unfortunately not just in money but in life!!!!! Some things shouldn't be decided by money alone!!!! The sheep will follow tomorrow night prediction 6-2 in favor of giving contract to Mccabe... And they will suddenly have enough ambulances and staff in 14 days!!! Yeah I have a bridge to sell you.

I am not in that field, as I said previously, the JC Medical Ambulance officials, called it "kickback." In today's paper, the Medical Center wants the state attorney general to review the contract. But even if it is legal, why would you want a vendor, McCable, who scored lower than the Medical Center on 911 calls? Sometimes you pay the higher price if it involves your family's health.

Yvonne, I find many examples of revenue sharing in govt. contracts on line. As long as it's disclosed up front, it does not appear to be illegal. Granted this was not an exhaustive search - so are you citing to anything specific or just the general "stink" factor?

Joshua- I hope you don't run your business the way the city is running this contract. A bid was placed and according to the Medical Center, I do not have the person name, but it was taped, it is illegal. You cannot have revenue sharing in a bid another, it is also called "kickback." I am repeating what was said. But the Medical Center was first in everything except revenue sharing. So Joshua, do you go to your doctor because he/she is the best or because he/she will share the revenue?

Yes, the council votes on the contract. Based on the recommendation of the mayor's office. Notwithstanding Boggiano's protests, it has been well known that the city was putting its contract up for bid, as shown by the ad campaign JCMC had over the past couple of months because it knew it might be outbid. A councilmember can be proactive, investigating and lobbying, or sit on his tush waiting for the recommendation to be made and then claiming this came out of nowhere. He needed time to "study" the sick bill law. He needed time to vote on Fulop's appointments because "he didn't know them." Notice a pattern here?

I'm surprised this hasn't been called out more frequently, as well. In addition to not having enough buses in Secaucus, McCabe also didn't meet the city's requirement for an 8 minute or less response time for calls. This is why Secaucus partnered with Meadowlands Hospital, instead, and ended its contract with McCabe.

Is this "fact" based solely on their current number of ambulances you quoted, an inventory that a reasonable person would assume to grow dramatically if they get the contract? It's this hyperbole that makes me skeptical of the JCMC case. Even their director is annoying quoting how they have the best response times of any midsize city. Well, they damn well should, since there's few midsize cities as dense as JC anywhere, the ambulances don't have very far to go.
