Seagull is correct - although SixthBoro raises a good point about the broader issues of out-of-control drivers in Jersey City. We've all seen location specific posts, and probably general posts such as the pedestrian initiatives that address traffic calming - but it shouldn't turn into a complaint-a-thon, rather try to suggest how as citizens to respond more effectively to the issue of speeding. Who want's to start it?? WEBMASTER - feel free to turn this into the first post on the subject of "what to do about speeding in JC".

BIG +1 here. I was driving West on Columbus, and an older group of 4 literally waited until the light turned green and started crossing. All of the cars had to swerve/stop.
Everyone on here complains about the drivers (rightfully so), but the pedestrians are equally as terrible. Quote:

Now if only there was a way to prevent people from crossing intersections when the light is green for cars...

Do you have a DT complex? Manila is the topic of this thread, hence we're talking about Manila, which unfortunately for you is located DT. Want to bring up speeding that doesn't pertain to a particular street that's located DT? Start another thread.

Just can't stay away

Probably because the only time you notice there's a car parked there is when there's a car that you can't see past being park there. Humans don't do a great job of noticing things that are not exceptions to what they're expecting.

Because people driving them aren't capable of parallel parking on the narrow streets?

totally agree with this...Erie is almost worse though because it's so narrow and people are always parked right up to the corners on every block. so as a pedestrian, you have to step off the curb and then like peek around the parked cars, vans, etc
side note: why does it always seem like it's a van or SUV parked right on the corner so you can't see anything?

Totally agreed. I noticed the exact same thing on Erie St when there was paving on the cross streets through Harsimus Cove.
A couple of bumps in the road and drivers really do slow down--and guess what else? Once they've slowed down for the bump, they are a lot more likely to stop for a pedestrian waiting in the crosswalk!

Anyone else notice the improvement? Cars are actually traveling at the speed limit and slowing down. It's like a race way usually...
Clear case for speed humps.
