Just do what everyone else does in jersey city, leave them outside and eventually someone will rip it apart, steal the copper and then it would be picked up by the trash dept.

Call the JCMUA.
Confirm that you will be putting out electronics. They will then pick up with the recycling. Strangely, microwaves are not considered E-waste. They just go out in the regular trash.

Trash/recycling rules for computer monitors

I looked (and know it was posted at some point) but couldn't find it. What are the rules on discarding old computer parts, specifically monitors? I know that the actual computers themselves need special disposal due to the materials in them (they have to be dropped off at the incinerator authority I think?), but I'm unfamiliar with what needs to be done with an old monitor.
Thanks in advance.

Staples also has a program - they charge for some things, but they for sure take printers:

You can drop it off at the Goodwill on JFK and Tonnelly Ave. I had 2 desktops , 5 laptops with multiple accessories (keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.) and they took it ALL. The best part is that I also got a tax deductible receipt.

Tekserve has an after-the-holidays recycling event going on now: http://www.tekserve.com/service/recycling.php Best Buy also has a recycling program - for the computer, you have to remove the hard drive and they charge $10 to take the monitor, but they'll give you a $10 Best Buy gift card. Neither specifically mentions printers so I'd call to double check before you lug it anywhere (although I'm sure it's fine).

I need to toss my old PC and printer.
Are there any places where I can donate or recycle electronics? They are not working and I don't think Salvation Army will take it.

I recycled batteries this weekend. Here's where to go:
Staples: batteries Target: mobile phones, MP3 players BTW, if anybody is every looking to recycle textiles, you can do so at the Union Square farmer's market.

This might be a long-shot, but Staples does a good job of recycling several different kinds of items. There's a collection bin at the front of most of their stores for different types of electronics.

I have some worn-out rechargeable batteries. Is there any place downtown that takes household batteries for recycling? Thanks.

Or, TekServe + LES Ecology Center are having a recycling event on Oct 9. I second this. TekServe is just off the 23rd St. PATH stop. Super easy to take stuff over there. http://www.tekserve.com/service/recycling.php http://www.lesecologycenter.org/index ... e&id=118&catid=7&Itemid=7

Take the hard drive out and take it to Best Buy. I took an old desktop to the location on 18th St., and they took it, no problems.
Here's there policy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/null/Recy ... 900050025&DCMP=rdr0001422

Last I heard, places like Best Buy & Staples had to be paid to accept dead electronics. If the IA now accepts them (they didn't used to) that's where I'll take the stuff. I felt really bad just putting out a malfunctioning 19"crt last month, but I knew of no viable options.

Hi Everyone,
Just got off the phone with the Incinerator Authority to recycle my old useless computer. I would post it on freecycle but it's ancient (1994) and we removed the hard drive in case there is any sensitive data on there. You can usually bring old electronics during the week M-F 8-12 or 1 -3:30, however if you want to go on a Saturday... The next Household Hazardous Waste Day in Jersey City is Saturday, October 16th, 9 am - 1 pm. You can bring your hazardous waste. Location: Jersey City Incinerator Authority 501 Route 440

Inside today's Jersey City Reporter, there is a copy of the Hudson County Improvement Authority "Seasons" Fall 2008 brochure. Go get a copy.

In my experience, whenever I put out an old computer, broken sound system, or anything with even a little bit of value, it's gone long before the garbage man ever comes!! Gotta Love Dumpster Divers!
In any event if you're looking for a electronics-only recycling center... I got nothing. What about donating it to the Salvation Army?
