I would think it would be going too far for someone to put up a fake sign. At least I would hope so. That side of Jersey Ave is part of the redevelopment zone, not historic. I found this out at a city zoning meeting. As for parking, i heard the developers were going to purchase the car service and laundry mat on Christopher Columbus, maybe that is where the parking will be.

i hope this is a hoax. why would they build in a historic downtown neighborhood? most of their stores that i'm aware of are on major streets in busier areas with better transportation or parking. plus, it will suck business away from all of our local small businesses.
if the sign said Wal-Mart, and it were real, people would be freaking out about how gross it is. but its whole foods, so people get giddy at the prospect. its still a big huge chain that seeks to dominate the market. yes, i get it, thats america, but in a historic neighborhood with small businesses, it should be an unwanted thing. a big ugly store with a neon sign right on jersey ave? would be better suited for the waterfront or the ground floor of a big office building where there is also a parking garage.

It seems to be a fake, I just spoke to a manager at the Whole Foods in Edgewater and they said it's not them.
He's calling corporate to double check and said he'd get back to me in a few. He also said the store manager of their store lives in downtown JC and he would've said something and it would've been on their website

I love how we're so defeated in JC that we can't believe a little bit of good news. Anyway, I'm willing to give Whole Foods the benefit of the doubt at this point, with the realization that a number of things can happen that would force them to pull out of the project. Whole Foods has been known to commit to empty lots because that allows them to design the space to their specs during the building process. They're currently building a store in Monmouth County, right off Route 9, that's the site of a demolished strip mall - they committed even before groundbreaking. That store isn't listed as "coming soon" on their website either, which leads me to believe that the company doesn't announce store openings until they're imminent. Here's a blurb on the new Monmouth location:

I don't know, what looks so legit about the sign? The Whole Foods logo can be found in under 2 seconds on Google images, and the "Coming Soon" is just black sans serif font, all printed on a banner that can be purchased anywhere.
Not trying to be nasty or negative, and I hope I'm wrong and we do get a Whole Foods, but that sign could have been easily created by anybody.

I have to admit the signage does look liget. I'm wondering if anyone has asked the owner of Choc O Pain next door? They would probably have some knowledge what is going on next door. I'll remain skeptical until I see WF website either indicate it or whe the doors actually open.
That being said, if true, this is great news for JC and more specifically the revitalization of Newark Avenue shopping/restuarant district.

It's likely a hoax. Not that I don't believe JC should or could have a Whole Foods, but the plans for the building are not even solidified, so why would Whole Foods commit to that spot?
It probably cost some clever jokester about $20 to print that banner out in the name of a good laugh. My only complaint is that they put it up on 4/11 instead of 4/1, the classic April Fool's Day. It would be awesome though. I have babbling on and on for years on JClist about wanting a local place to get fresh fish and meats.

I agree, this sounds like a hoax, there are small WH markets, Port Washington NY and Ardmore PA have small WH markets but they also have substantial parking lots connected with the stores.

Where is the picture?
I'm still skeptical that this isn't a hoax. Went on the WF website and there is no indication of a store in development in JC. Last I had heard was that it was to be a 5 story condo building with no detail what would be on the ground floor.

No kidding! Someone post a damn picture already. As much as I welcome this news I'm also kind of dreading what this will do to congestion at an already busy intersection. It's not like the city is going to be proactive....

As T-Bird points out, it's not just easier getting out to Millburn, it is also MUCH BETTER service. The employees are pleasant, the supermarket is never crowded or disorganized and you have Best Buy, Target and Home Depot all within a mile.
Even after paying the tolls to take the Turnpike Extension to 78, it is WORTH IT to not deal with the headaches of driving out to Edgewater. The only reason I ever drive out to Edgewater is if I want to hit up Mitsuwa (which is GREAT). Heck, I have been known to ride my bicycle out to Edgewater to not deal with the traffic. Sometimes, it takes me less time to do so than driving. Also, as Tommyc_37 points out, TJs is great for the frozen fish. They have simple , plain fillets of at least 4 or 5 different types year round, in addition to two to four types already marinated in flavorful sauces. Indeed, the location on 21st Street is very convenient (especially if you are already in the city) but I commute by bicicyle and sometimes need to carry heavy items, or more than two bags. If I have to hit up both TJs and WF, and possibly Target as well, then I find it easier to drive out to Millburn.
