From the Jersey City Independent:

?I have no intention of ever running again,? Ahmad added. ?You can quote me on that.?

But I'm sure she'll be happy to be appointed again.

While I am not exited about Richardson and Lavarro winning, I am glad that Ahmad and Velazquez are off the council. More so Ahmad. I'm guessing Richardson has made the final push away from team Healy. She's not the worst, but she's still a fool. Really disappointed about Levin not winning.

Ahmad may get appointed to fill Viola's Ward F seat . . .

So I am very glad that Ahmad and Velazquez lost decisively. But does anyone here really think that Ahmad won't get selected to fill Viola's Ward F seat? That's a total no brainer for Team Healy.

As for Lavarro, wasn't he a Council aide? Anyone recall which councilman? You get three guesses.

You guys realize this was all orchestrated, right?

All that said, wtf are people talking about re: runoffs, investigations, etc? Is tge result a big hot stinking turd? Absolutely. But that's how at-large races work. If there's any hope for throwing the bums out, the whole "one jc" idea needs to walk the walk.

I found Velazquez's and Ahmad's TV ad laughable. Typical, they can afford it with HCDO backing them. For a municipal election they sure threw a lot of "Democrats" and "millionaires pay their fair share" in the ad. Glad it didn't help them too much.

Is Healy going to put one of those two fools back into Richardson's seat?

I dunno I thought the real problem was the majority of the Levin signs I saw were in downtown. If you want a downtown candidates to win a city wide election you gotta fan out. You're outnumbered face it. Regroup and try again, but you have to spread the word better. I mean I live in ward F and even though I didn't vote for her Viola Richardson came right up to my door and shook my hand as I was walking home. In ward F, with no escort of any sort. I voted for Dan, but his people were nowhere to be seen except ward E. I'm not saying completely nowhere, but it was few and far between.

The Strategy was...

get all your friend to run for election... make the ballot ridiculous...

It only took 150 signatures to get on the ballot. I could do that standing outside shoprite.

The strategy was make the ballot so stupid - 17 candidates - that no one could could get a majority.

This way you can get the most votes cause people are stupid and don't know who to vote for.

YUK YUK YUK.

Jersey City at its finest.

There should be a run off. Everyone should challenge the results.

No WAY Viola (part of team TAX YOU TILL YOU DIE HEALY got a majority of votes).

Bet there was a bonus for city employees to vote for Viola... Wait they don't even live here.

Doesn't matter.

Hate Jersey City corrupt politicians.

You don't need to build a machine to beat this current machine. You need people to come out and vote. Most of the people voting are the ones who have a vested interest in seeing that the status quo remains so.

Its really simple. People need to pay attention to local politics and then vote. Not whine and complain the rest of the year after the election.

And fresh baked cookies help. Works for SouthWest.

You have to build a machine to beat a machine. There is no real unified opposition outside of Fulop's ward. I am sure much of the vote (for what it was..) was broken by people voting for whatever candidate was the same ethnicity as themselves... Issues taking a distant second place on the list of concerns.

Until a unified opposition forms, the current regime zombies will just vote they same clowns back into power over and over again.

No runoff. Viola and Rolando were not backed by the HCDO. Ahmad and Velazquez were.

As no one candidate got a majority... will there be a run-off?

This cannot be final.

I am shocked and appalled. Viola (I'm a triple dipper and a frequent no-show to both the council and even the debates) wins?

I smell fraud. I smell the machine.

This woman is part of the problem.

I call for an investigation by the state and federal governments.

Something is crooked in Jersey City politics.

I think the strategy was... get as many people to run, it will split the votes and the sludge will rise to the top.

YUK. Machine politics at its best.

Sorry.

the zombies are winning....
looks like Fulop will be alone on the council. Machine candidates are going to take it with less than 15% of the vote each...

Divide that by two. Number of voters is less than 10,000 with almost two-thirds of the votes counted.

73% in now - Viola looks to be in command. Horse race for second spot among Mack, Rolando, Ahmad and Velazquez.

It really is a low turn out as usual. I know this probably won't be popular but there should be a law to make you vote. These local elections really count since it will affect you directly.
And to sweeten the pot they should give you a fresh baked cookie after voting that should make it fun.

And yes I voted today.

Ahmad and Velazquez in 6th and 7th places, respectively with just under half the vote in. Boggiano, Levin and Lavarro all with strong showings. Mack and Richardson leading, but not comfortably.

Viola seems to have a very slight lead... very low turnout it seems. Would be nice to see a Ward breakdown. Curious if a lot of Ward F is being reported, which might give Viola an edge.
