I saw signs on the window that say this place is turning into an Italian restaurant called "Roman Nose." Anyone have any more info?

Nick's definitely looks like it is closed for good. Some of the best Italian food I have had was at Second Street Bakery. I'm going to go back there for lunch one of these days.

I'd say the best in downtown is Rustique, Bon Appitito, and that new place by the beer garden, Abbondanza Trattoria. Which happens to have great food too (and is byo)

guess they closed at the right time and saved themselves a shameful review on my pizza blog.
i had been in there 2x while running late to the path train and the pizza was mediocore at best.

Nicks Village was the worst ruse ever. Yes, the people there looked like Italians that know good cooking, but couldn't even come close to making a good slice of pizza. What we could really use in JC is some sort of Italian market where we can get prepared Italian food, and different Italian meats and cheeses. Kinda like a Tuscany Deli or a Top Tomato if any of you guys are familiar with those chains.

Actually, I prefer my pizza to be made by people who resemble cousins of Tony Soprano, but that's just me.
Nick's had an opportunity to claim a niche in the market, if they had consistently stayed open late night. They had indicated that they were going to, but I don't think I ever saw them open late night.

What happened to Nick's Village Pizza on Newark?
They went on "Vacation" which has now turned into disappearing signage and a store that is not open. Meanwhile, tonight outside the PATH station at Grove St. you have all these trucks and food peddlers. All of that should be done away with. They should be forced to open real restaurants on Newark Avenue. Still Waiting for a real Restaurant Row in Jersey City. No more Food Trucks. If you can manage a food truck, you can open a real restaurant. Thanks. FG

I had a few slices from them over the last several weeks, but ultimately the taste just isn't there. I think the only way I would choose Nick's over Stella's, Helen's or Bon Appetito is if Nick's was open after midnight and the others were not.

it's OK... little whimpy for a $2 slice. will stick to Bon App during regular hours, but obviously this place is gret for late night eats.

I've eaten there twice. The food is fine, but nothing exceptional. I found the service pretty fast, and don't have any issues with the old-school JC types hanging out in front - they add a bit of character to the joint.

I heard they were slow -- they seem to have too many guys working there at the same time -- and by that I mean just sitting in all the chairs out in front -- I am sure it is off putting to customers, well especially young female customers - but then again that is just MHO... They do have good pizza -- perhaps they should do some coupon flyers to get people to try the delivery -- dare I say it -- maybe they should do a "Groupon!"

Well, there IS a 10 foot tall statue of a pizzaman outside the place ... that's pretty flashy.
No, but the exterior does need something added to it. I think a really nice, classic awning should do the trick. As for the inside -- I kind of like my pizzerias pretty no-frills on the inside.

Has anybody tried it yet?
I tried a slice last night. It was a pretty average slice for NJ/NY. It was tasty ... but nothing necessarily stood out about it. It was NOT greasy. One of the owners said that he's hoping to stay open until 3 am on the weekends, which I think is pretty awesome, considering the lack of such places.
