I agree with cyclotronic. And I'm a lady.
JFK is well lit and the area is not desolate. Well travelled by college students returning to the dorms from the city at all hours. Although I am rarely walking around after 9:00 PM, I have never felt unsafe. I also usually walk on Bergen and cut up Glenwood, mostly because I think it's faster, but at night you might prefer JFK. I rarely go West of Montgomery--so I can't attest to that--but I think Fairmount is only a block or two West.

Yes, absolutely safe. Very late (post-midnight) on a weekday I might take a $5 cab. I say this having lived here for 8+ years.
Please ignore all the naysayers. I suspect none of them actually live around here. Unless they can back up their statements, their opinions are worthless.

I used to do that walk a few years ago, and I never felt safe after dark. As a rule, I'm always on guard when walking, but when I lived near there, I felt unsafe, always, when walking from JSQ PATH down Kennedy at night.

Since moving to Kennedy and Duncan this summer, I've been using the following route home from the PATH: walking along Bergen, then cutting up Glenwood to Kennedy. Seems okay in the early to mid-evening. (After 8:30 I usually take a cab.) The fast-moving traffic on Kennedy often seems scarier than the risk of getting assaulted.

I'm assuming that when you mention walking along JFK, you're talking about walking to and from the PATH aka going from JFK and fairmount up JFK to the JSQ PATH station. If you're talking about that, then you have little to worry about. A lot of people walk that route, even late at night, so you don't have to worry about walking alone down a dark empty street. If you're talking about walking south on JFK from fairmount, I don't know anything about that.

Not a whole lot of people walking around there late night...
Are you plan on walking to and from Journal Square? If so most people on that route gets off around zip ave and not a whole lot of foot traffic heading that way..

Hi All,
I am planning to take a place at the intersection of John F Kennedy blvd and Fairmount Avenue. How safe is Fairmount Avenue, and JFK Blvd? I heard that JFK is pretty safe if you walk from 6 am to 11 pm. Is that true? Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
