My wife and I decided to try Teppan yesterday. The food was OK, but we got a little surprise when the check came.  Apparently, they decided that they should round up our bill to the nearest nickel. Needless to say, we will never be going back.

We had dinner there last night. We decided on the hibachi dinner. Started off with the duck appetizer and that was really good. The hibachi was fun, but the chef still needs practice with his tricks and on the cooking side. The chef was really soy sauce happy, and everything was cooked well-done, even though some of us requested medium or rare for the steak. The hibachi dinner is good for just family fun or for groups. Kids would love it.
We will definitely go back to try a regular table dinner. I'm really interested in trying the sushi. The atmosphere is really welcoming and the staff is pretty friendly.

Had drinks there tonight...this is a place that would be just as cool in the city and had the same level of service you would expect.

The bartender was VERY good and mixed a great cocktail (or three in our case

This is a great place...really feels like JC is on the ups when i go into places like this.

You can't tell anyone in NYC about places like this...they won't believe you (or make the trip)...their loss.

I ate there recently, prices were reasonable. However my braised short rib was cold and chewy. Definitely liked the sushi/sashimi better than the rolls. The balance of the ingredients in the rolls left something to be desired. However nice staff and extensive menu, will try again.

You know the... See butterfly and then they flip the butter into their hat. The smiley face with the alcohol. Then they make the volcano with the onion rings. Flipping the cooked shrimp right into your mouth or their hat. Squirting sake right into your mouth from across the table.
It's part dinner part entertainment.

?? What's a typical Hibachi Joke?
Is this a genre of humor with which I am completely unfamiliar?
Come on. Lay one on me, Chief.

Went last night with my lady. We had a great time, the food was really good and the prices were extremely reasonable and affordable.

It was a little busy and we waited about 30 mins at the bar around 9pm for a table. We didn't have a reservation so that's what I would expect on a Friday during peak dinner rush.

The hibachi chefs were very entertaining with the typical hibachi jokes.

lots of large groups celebrating.

+1

Went the other night - overall it was very good - the portion size was good as well as the quality. Had hibachi and some sushi. The service was a little slow even though it wasn't crowded. I would go back. Definitely a good addition/option in the neighborhood.

The hibachi tables are back to back with the chef in the middle, so one you could have a big group of people and one or two chefs. I would say up to 16 people for both tables or 8 at one.

My wife and I went to Teppan last night. We both had the shrimp hibachi. The food was very tasty, reasonably priced and the hibachi chef was entertaining. The portions were surprisingly large. The restaurant is spacious and well designed. Service was very attentive. Everyone made you feel welcome. The bar had a nice crowd. This is a very nice, lively addition to the neighborhood. Seems like a great place to go with a group.

So is the lounge area going to function as a late night bar? I.e., will they be open until 3 am?

Had the Hibachi dinner on Friday night, excellent overall. It was surprisingly crowded since they just opened a few nights ago. Apparently they put fliers in the doorways of the 50 Columbus residents, we met a few at our table.

I stopped by yesterday when i noticed it was open to take a look inside. the hostess was nice enough to give me a tour. It is a very nice setup and the prices are very decent. I am looking forward to trying it out!

We did the Hibachi thing as we brought our teenage nephews who are not down with sushi yet. The hibachi was standard hibach which is good. Good size sushi bar and the lounge area seems cool. To me it is a great addition to JC, combines restaurant lounge area and should attract all types. I live around the corner and am thrilled that they are finally open

Agreed. Good food and atmosphere. Pretty crowded as well. The service was very slow, but it was the first Saturday. Would definitely go back.

Surprised not to see this already up, but Teppan (restaurant at 50 Columbus) is finally open (soft). Went last night and really liked it. Great space and atmosphere for JC. Good crowd all weekend. Worth checking out Teppan Bar and Grill 319 Warren Street Jersey City, NJ 07302
