Re: The Embankment Restaurant

JC has a very good Restaurant week that starts on the 26th.
It's great for deals in the city but MUCH better here in JC....the restaurants mostly just seem to work harder at it.

Have a few good nights out

Definitely check...it wasn't a place i ever went in (!), but i am pretty sure all 3 businesses in that space are gone now and they have signs on the door looking for deli, nail salons and dry cleaners.

Parkside Bistro is great and a very welcome addition to the 'hood. It's not a bar so i don' think of it as direct competition to Embankment and Hamilton in..and it's 2 blocks away so not immediate neighborhood or 10th street, actually.

Good luck with the bridal shower!

My best guess is the jury is still out on whether 10th street/Hamilton Park can support 2 bar/restaurants that have Manhattan-style food and those prices.

I'd hate to see either Hamilton Inn or Embankment close but the simple fact is you can tell most of the folks that live in the larger apartment buildings in this neighborhood don't use either of these places and that really limits their market.

The (indian run) grocery, nail salon and dry cleaners on this street were all "ok" and yet have closed recently.

I actually find this place to be an incredible transformation.

It was an *ok* place that went downhill steadily over 2 years under the last owner - to the point that i doubt many people would have seen it as a going concern to....now...it's busy on a friday lunchtime!
(There's not than much office traffic nearby so that IS remarkable!).

The food is good, if a bit pricey, but the place seems busy after 3-4 months and that must be a good sign and...it's good.

I've enjoyed a good meal or 3 there recently.

Good luck to them...definitely worth a visit.

Surprisingly, it's not a WaWa...it's another Gas Station!
Thank heavens for that...just what we were all hoping for...Not.

Had drinks there tonight...this is a place that would be just as cool in the city and had the same level of service you would expect.

The bartender was VERY good and mixed a great cocktail (or three in our case

This is a great place...really feels like JC is on the ups when i go into places like this.

You can't tell anyone in NYC about places like this...they won't believe you (or make the trip)...their loss.

Not sure about this "soft opening" they told you about - they have been open for at least a coupla weeks now so...perhaps time to drop the pretentiousness..

Had a very nice sandwich there last week. Definitely going to have dinner there soon. A very welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Had a look in the window myself tonight and it still looks like they have someway to go, but nothings been done in a while.

I wonder if this thread will look like the Atomic Wings one in 2 years time? I hope not

Let us know when this has full coverage in 07302.

Not sure i understand why they have a booth in Newport Mall when most folks in Newport and, actually, Hamilton Park, still can't get service...but i would like to mistaken here...

Re: Zeppelin Hall Beer Garden - Opening Night

I went this evening and this place was very good. AMAZINGLY large space for JC and very nice outdoors in today's weather

They could do with twice the number of staff...on a really busy night 1 bartender per bar is not going to be enough (but that's hard to judge for an opening weekend, i guess).

I really hope this place does well...they have so much space i could really see them having live bands ...with 2-3 bar areas, they could still have family-friendly and more hard core drinkers at the same time.

good luck to them..

Re: How bad is your Comcast Internet?

I had a problem like this for a while...intermittant latency issues and packet drops with ping to the subnet default gateway. A tech came on a call out and recut/put a new connector on the coax and that fixed things after checking the connections end-to-end within the building...ie. to and from whatever the cable company calls a DMARC...

Maybe you have a similar issue?

The Mall isn't open 24/7...dunno where you get that. Coming back from the city to Hamilton park very late (>12am) aint the best of things about this neighbourhood. I actually have started going to WTC and walking from grove rather than the (very overcrowded) train from 33rd st.
The maill is closed after 11 most nights, so you have to walk around.
That said, there's not been too many creeps around and even if the streets look bleak going around the mall, they are pretty safe

Abbeys is a great place...have been back and forth there for a coupla years now and the (asian) lady who bar tends has gotta be the coolest bar tender in JC i have met.

Dunno about the trouble..never seen it, though i guess that's about the time i go there (usually early evening 'cos it's a great place to sit outside of)
Went there recently and there was a film being made in the building ...anyone got details?.
