Luckily most people know the scoop on this guy because he UNFORTUNATELY came across as one of the more intelligent folks up there last night. Without knowing a thing about him other than he is a felon convicted of bank fraud that has no business being near my tax dollars, it was hard to sort through what was the truth and what was a lie from what he was saying. Anyone have a clue about the point of 1100 teachers that he kept harping about who have no teaching assignment?????

Number seven was in the paper although the offending pile of fecal matter was not connected to McCann.I t was left on the Mayor's desk and over the years gerry has braged about it.
Just ask former Mayor Tony Cucci,he's still around. It was a bitter bitter election that year.

Awesome, FU. And isn't it more than ironic that the city's chief litter inspector is out gluing signs all over the place for the benefit of his school board campaign. What on earth did Jersey City ever do to deserve this narcissistic sociopath??? I'm guessing something really, really bad.

Top ten reasons past and present not to vote for McCann for school board april 20th

1.As a convicted felon in a bank fraud case he should not be
anywhere near a 630 million dollar budget. 2.As a school board member he pushed through a no bid contract for the accounting firm he used to work for. 3.He had the school board pay his personal attorney over 50,000. 4.He has gotten friends and McCann loyalists jobs at the BOE. One was fired from his last job for drug use. 5.During his time as mayor he tried to suppress the minority vote by having an elevator cable cut in the housing projects. 6.As mayor he stationed uniformed police outside all polling stations in minority area's to suppress the vote. 7.After losing the mayoral election of 1985 he glued all the locks in city hall and defecated on his desk before he left. 8.He has repeatedly trolled nursing homes and conned seniors into voting absentee for himself which is illegal. 9.As mayor he appointed Jerry Healy municipal court judge and thus began the political career of Healy which has been a disaster for this city. 10.As the healy candidate and because Healy gave McCann a fifty thousand dollar a year job as a litter inspector he cannot be trusted to be independent at the BOE.

I disagree that this thread has diverged. The fact that he was hired by the city BECAUSE of his BOE power which he has used again to leverage himself in a position to steal from taxpayers (by getting his old firm in charge of our huge school budget) make reactions like vote him out appropriate responses.
McCann, DeHare, and Conners are ALL embarrassments. We need to clean up our schools start by getting these jerks of the BOE

This post above from March 3rd and all the comments below it should have its own thread. It's confusing to see "city hires felon McCann" when really the conversation has become "dump felon McConn at April 20th election." Someone want to set that up? FedUp: maybe you should make your argument in a new post to highlight your concerns.

I bet the fact he got the 600M school budget handled by his old firm since he got on the BOE has alleviated some of his money problems. Also, he is probably the best consultant in the state for co-ercing the votes of the elderly and the infirm.

The Healy people got McCann hired at the Jersey City Incinerator Authority as an "inspector". Although not technically holding a City job, for all intents and purposes its a patronage position. As for consulting, McCann has been a total failure. Everyone knows he's poison and a bad guy. No one trusts him. I hear he has major money problems in his personal life.

He's on the Board of Ed, incumbent in the April 20 election, so I guess so.
Saw this guy in action at the panel discussion the other night. Stunning.

Silly question.....Is McCann still gainfully employed by the city? Or consulting or whatever. Funny thing in the business I run we really, really never re-hire people who have been convicted of ripping us off. We call that a "best practice"

Sparks Fly At School Board Candidates? Forum
By Shane Smith ? Mar 26th, 2010 Ten of the 16 candidates for this year?s school board election gathered Thursday evening at Metropolitan AME Zion Church on Belmont Avenue to introduce themselves to the community and make the case for their election. Three of the positions on the nine-member board are up for grabs this year, and all three incumbents ? Terry Dehere, Gerry McCann and Angel Valentin ? are running for reelection, and they were all on hand Thursday. The other candidates who attended the forum were Evelyn Farmer, Carol Lester, Gerald Lyons, June Mulqueen, Marimer Navarrete, Sterling Waterman and Arthur Zigman. continue reading at: http://www.jerseycityindependent.com/ ... l-board-candidates-forum/ Quote:

Last night (3/25/10) there was a School Board Candidates? Forum that was announced, last minute, in the JC Independent. I wasn't able to attend because I hadn't been aware of the event.
There are two more School Board Canditdates Forums planned. I don't have exact times, but I do have dates and where: 4/8 - NAACP at the Mary Bethune Center, MLK 4/13-DCNA at OLC church, Sussex St. If I get more info, I will post. I don't know whether Gerry McCann will be there, but it would be great to see who turns up.

It won't be harrasment if we are just reminding them that it is against the Law for a candidate to solict ballots. They are so used to seeing him during other elections that they may not know he is committing a crime and putting their licence on the line.

Great idea, fedup07302.
We need to make a list and promote a calling campaign. My only question is the legality of calling private facilities. Anyone know whether this could be considered harassment?

Don't forget Hamilton park and the atrium on Tenth and Monmouth. Both are owned by peter Mocco who bought all of liberty harbor while gerry was Mayor. We should list all the nursing homes in JC and flood them with calls. It may help stop some of his shananigans.

The rich get away with WAAAAY too much and so do friends of the rich. Until we change that dynamic this kind of crap will keep happening.
As far as the odd coupling of politicos it's more like the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

We should call the nursing homes. We should also formally call whatever entity regulates elections and lodge complaints. We should contact the campaigns running against him and we should hire whoever was able to beat him in Rutherford to head up a public awareness campaign revealing McCann for who he is.
He obviously has a powerful contingency of people "confused" about ethics and morality. These folks are able to provide him access to absentee ballots of the elderly and infirm, and are willing to get up on soup boxes & public forums to defend & support grotesque criminal behavior.
