Is this 7-11 suppposed to be a step UP or a point of denigration?
I'd have preferred they kept the A&P of yore on Kennedy between Sip and SIp/Bergen. It was an ugly store but it had everything one needed, a typical small inner-city A&P...but no hoagies.

To me a 7-11 always meant a sleazy grocery joint next to the "Bigger Jigger."..best to try to get your very limited shopping done when there were no people with ski masks in the store. The few times I've been in one they didn;t have what I wanted.

If there is some concept like DEGENTRIFICATION, it is summed up in the opening of a 7-11.

Peeked in here today. Seems they are setting up a Citibank ATM, which should be good news for their customers as there isn't a branch near JSQ. I know that when I banked there, lack of presence in JSQ was an additional source of annoyance, not to mention fees.

I haven?t wondered around the bus terminal side i usually walk or take a taxi from there... Are you talking about the one that is immediately to your right if you come up the first escalator from the PATH turnstyle?

Yes

They opened a 24-hour 7-11 in Rutherford a few years ago on the corner of Union & River Rd. The neighborhood was up in arms. The community was dead set against the opening. They feared their kids would load up on junk food, slurpies and all sorts of appetite spoilage. The community also feared that their tranquility would diminish with an all night open door establishment not to mention tons of traffic during the day. With stores like these the neighborhood would lose it's "mom & pop" theme of main street shops. The owner of the 7-11 threatened to sue the town stating he already received the permits and has other 7-11 stores in other New Jersey towns. The owner also stressed being a poor immigrant from Egypt he had no other means of support stating as hardship case. I think the residents have just as much of a right if not more not to have a business they don't want as mush as the guy wanting to open the 7-11. The residents of the town should put it up for a vote.

this is the saddest story i've heard in a very long time. Im going to scratch rutherford off as a town i'll ever want to step foot in. if the town can be so uptight and helpless that they cant just tell their kids to stop eating sweets and they need to tell a business owner he cant open a convenience store of all things, there is no helping them. this is why i hate the suburbs. please JC, dont ever stoop to this.

Sorry but I think 7/11 is so NOT classy. They had to get a permit from someone in the our government. Couldn't our fearless leaders have waited, or tried to attract an alternative?

If the 7-11 owner opens up a pharmacy counter surely he'll do good business selling the likes of Paxil, Prozac and Klonopin. Some residents are way too uptight. The best way to vote is to do so with your pocketbook by choosing to patronize the store or not.

I saw the "24-7" on Newark, that sign has to be some kind of trademark violation.

I was just telling my girl on Sunday while driving her home, "why doesn't JC have a 7-11?! or any hood for that matter". I wish we had one.

Yes, I said "hood"

And as I'm walking towards the Bally's yesterday, BAM! bright lights its 7-11! Wishes do come true in JC. Thank you out of towners for making JC safe enough to get our own 7-11!

North Jersey needs Wawa in the worst way. Puts 7-11 to shame.

Good for JSQ, but downtown doesn't need a 7-11, we already have a "Twenty-Four Seven" on Newark right near Helen's Pizza.
