I moved to Jersey City 10 or 11 years ago and one of my first memories was of a place by the area Grove Pointe is now called "Tio Tony's" or something similar.

I went into the place around 8 PM near closing and asked for a menu, the owner said, "It's your first time here" and proceeded to give us a bag of ALL of their leftovers for the day for free.

Next time I went a few weeks later they'd already closed.

Looking back it was still one of the nicest things a restaurant owner has done for me, always felt bad that they closed.

Rich is the best. On numerous occasions he's intentionally undercharged me or done things for free. He always starts a friendly conversation that keeps me there 10 minutes longer than I meant to be every time, and I mean that in a good way.

He's one of the people I'd truly miss if I moved from Jersey City.

I agree with the "extended family" thing, Rich is incredibly nice to me and my wife when we go into PostNet.

He lets us drop off pre-paid packages all the time, but we also use his business often so we have a relationship where he knows we also spend money there.

Whether or not he allows people to just drop off packages otherwise I can't speak to. But I can say that as soon as I saw "PostNet" as a topic I thought that I hoped people were being nice to my buddy Rich, that guy is great.

A few weeks ago we passed Tommy Two Scoops and the door was open. We walked in and even though the place wasn't technically "open", the owner asked us if we wanted to try some free gelato anyway.

It was really good (we had vanilla with Nutella topping) and the owner (Seth) was really nice. We'll definitely be stopping by again to try the rest of the flavors, a great addition to the neighborhood.

He didn't just refer to the one guy, he said it's a "haven for inner city thugs". How come nobody ever talks about suburban thugs or rural thugs? Because when someone uses the word "thug", they are referring to a specific type of person which has less to do with their actions and more to do with their general appearance (and not just race).

And that's why when I hear that word, I know exactly where this poster is coming from, and I'm done.

AAW..., Let me correct myself, that is,this mall is frequented by those who are kept down by "The Man", and those who go out of their way to behave in a civilized manner and who can convey their thoughts without having to use a weapon, oh and yeah, those who wouldn't dare to hold anyone up if the opportunity arises, Right??????????

I hope this makes the truth a bit easier to swallow.

I never said anything about being kept down by "The Man", and the people in the story weren't even carrying a weapon. More stereotyping once again, nice job. Nevermind that these were college students which would go against the idea of a "thug" who couldn't "convey their thoughts without having to use a weapon". I never knew that robbers were trying to "convey their thoughts", I always just thought they wanted money.

It seems to me that it's a story of an inside job where someone was set-up by someone they thought was a friend. It's a crime and it's horrible and they should be punished, I was just pointing out how quickly "thug", the sarcastic "kept down by The Man" and not being able to "convey their thoughts" get thrown around when it's a group of young black kids involved in something.

That's why people who start using these terms lose all credibility with me, once again you point out exactly how you frame the story and any valid points you may have had get lost on me. I'm not defending these criminals, they seem to be pretty terrible people at least based on this crime, but it's funny to see how quickly you lumped them into a category of people that you see as "thugs", and makes me wonder how many "thugs" you see around on a daily basis.

I would check the PostNet on Grove St. (near the PATH as you walk on Grove towards 1st St.).

The owners are really friendly and helpful, so if they have a laminator they'd be a great choice.

We've had similar problems with FedEx before. They've rung the bell and when I buzzed them upstairs, they had just left the package in front of our building. There have been a few times where they've refused to come up to our apartment, one time because "the elevator was on a different floor". Nevermind they could have just hit the button on the elevator and waited for it.

They've also pulled the "we stopped by and you weren't there" card.

Maybe it's the same driver (we're downtown too), but FedEx is certainly worse than UPS as far as customer service for deliveries.

I hope you can hock those promotional postcards for our jewelry business for some good loot!

Thanks UPS! Thanks thief!

FedEx is usually even worse at this. I've had a box of Nike merchandise stolen from in front of my building because they left it there without buzzing. Another time they buzzed to see if I was home and when I buzzed them in, they just stuck the package (containing $1,000 Red Sox tickets) in the door and left. Luckily a neighbor brought it to me. I've also had FedEx leave a package in the lobby after I buzzed them in because "the elevator was on floor 5". An actual quote. The guy could have just pressed the elevator button.

UPS is usually slightly more reliable in the JC area, but I'm sorry to hear about the theft. Call UPS and the postcard company to complain, we actually got the Nike merchandise re-sent from Nike because they believed our story.

Could this FINALLY lead to the long-rumored, long-promised, extra HD channels in our area?

Nearly all other Comcast markets have added at least 5 to 7 new HD channels in the past year (not counting the sports channels). Even though FIOS and Direct TV still have way more than Comcast, I'll take whatever I can get at this point.

I'm thinking of picking up an HDTV for my bedroom.

I currently pay $15.95/month for HD/DVR in my living room.

I call Comcast today to ask how much it would be for an HD hookup in the bedroom (I already have TV in there, just not a box).

The 2nd box would be $20.95 EXTRA a month? How the heck does a 2nd box, without DVR, cost MORE than the first box which has DVR? Huh?

They said, "Because you are adding to your service".

Basically they know they have got you at that point, so they charge you $20.95 for something that would be $6.00 in the living room. Ridiculous.

And of course, I immediately checked and Fios is NOT available in my building, sigh.

In front of the Atomic Wings on Newark Ave. , I can see they blocked off the street with police tape and lots of flashing lights are going off.

I COULD walk outside to see what's going on, but it's rainy and windy and I'd rather see if someone else knows what happened.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Since Comcast has limited competition, the answer is:

Whenever they feel like it.

It looks like sooner than later we're getting 9 new HD channels (it's a gradual rollout apparently), I know they added SNY HD finally last week to coincide with baseball season.

Comcast specifically said they have the most HD channels, period.

More than Directv, more than Verizon, more than anybody.

Directv claims they have 90 HD channels.

What gives?

Is Comcast lying?

They claim they have more HD "content". If you count the HD movies On Demand, and the HBO, Showtime, etc.etc. channels that offer HD On Demand products, then technically at any time you have more HD options.

Of course, I'd prefer some more HD Channels over an old movie filmed before HD cameras being available On Demand in HD.

Having lived here for 5 years or so, I've had numerous dealings with Comcast, some good, some bad.

1) I've had them say they would show up, and never show up. Then they take no responsibility for not showing up on the phone and tell me they can't fix my cable for a few more days. I am a calm person and I was enraged but they kept reading the script, "I understand your frustration Sir, but...." over and over.

2) I've had people say they tried to buzz in my building when I know they didn't. I said, "They had my phone number, why didn't they call". The response, "I understand your frustration Sir, but...."

3) I've had technicians not know how to fix a problem, so they call an engineer who comes days later, who says you need a technician, and it goes back and forth.

4) I've ALSO had some great experiences. Once a guy called me and said he was here to fix my cable. I said I was on my way home from work and I'd be there in 5 minutes, he said, "No hurry, I'll wait outside for you". And not only did he wait, he refused a tip saying, "It's my job, don't worry about it".

5) I've actually had 2 guys who refused tips because they said they've inconvenienced me and it's their job to do this.

6) I've also done the "I'm going to switch to Direct TV" move recently and I saved $25 a month on my bill as a result.

Basically I feel that Comcast is no better or worse than any other corporation I've dealt with. There's no responsibility and nobody to answer to because it's basically a monopoly on local cable. They probably give fake names over the phone because saying, "I talked to so-and-so" never gets me anywhere.

Ask people in Manhattan if they hate Time Warner and they certainly do. I know people in Manhattan where Time Warner won't even COME to their door to fix the box, they have to bring it to Time Warner every time.

Ask other people if they hate Verizon and a lot of them do as well.

In fact, I bet you could substitute the word "Comcast" with Verizon, Time Warner, Cablevision, or even other corporations and businesses like Best Buy, AT & T, PSE&G and we've all had the same experiences.

In closing, cable companies in general are awful, big faceless corporations are awful at customer service, and the customers always get screwed.

You mean the same FedEx that "delivered" a package to me on Friday, saying, "Left in front of buzzer". My buzzer is outdoors.

I never got it, they're basically saying, "I don't know, no signature was required". Meanwhile every other time I've used UPS or FedEx or even USPS they've refused to drop it in front of the apartment building(wisely).

So now I have to contact the Nike store which shipped my package, and I'll probably get a refund in 2 weeks.

But my sneakers that I need for the gym? That'll be awhile.

I've also in the past had FedEx buzz my apartment, where I say, "C'mon in!" and then they leave it outside anyway saying that they contacted me. Awful.

Consider this hypothetical. It?s November 2008. A young Pakistani Muslim is watching television and sees that this man?Barack Hussein Obama?is the new face of America. In one simple image, America?s soft power has been ratcheted up not a notch, but a logarithm. A brown-skinned man whose father was an African, who grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii, who attended a majority-Muslim school as a boy, is now the alleged enemy. If you wanted the crudest but most effective weapon against the demonization of America that fuels Islamist ideology, Obama?s face gets close. It proves them wrong about what America is in ways no words can.

In an objective sense, it's sort of silly that someone's mere visage could carry such weight, but something like this could actually be more important than other aspects of his candidacy.

An American black man is not going to make a difference in the Pakistan or in the Middle East. In Iraq Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds with similar skin tones are killing each other and they despite each other. Their hatred of America (and each other) runs a lot deeper than simple skin color. Pakistani children do not view African-Americans as kindred spirits.

I'm a liberal, but I haven't made up my mind on Obama yet. Even though I agree that it would be wonderful to have a black president to get a new perspective and broaden America's horizons, I'd rather see the best candidate get in. Maybe that's Obama, but I'm not sold entirely on his image.

And the Oprah backing just lends credence to the "All hype, no substance" criticisms of Obama. It may backfire in the end.
