oh girl, don't let us cougars scare you.

As for the original topic, I find it fascinating that with this thread and the Marin Blvd accident thread, JCList seems to be doing more investigative work than the so-called authorities.

I smell a reality TV show...

So, my PARKED car got hit last night on Varick between York and Bright. It damaged the back wheel, scraped and dented the whole driver side and left a big mess. No note nothing. It's odd that this has happened twice in the same area within a week. It was a red car and they must have hit mine pretty hard as my right front wheel was up on the sidewalk. I also was late for work because I had to wait for the police and call the insurance company. I do have collison on my car, but I have a $1000 deductible which sucks because I am getting married next week. Anyways, enough complaining, I just wanted people to know and to be on the look out around that area.

Oh, but they are actually one in the same. You see young cybertramp, there is a special time in every MILF's life when she matures into a hot, sexy Cougar. It's all just a normal part of nature's sometimes fascinating, sometimes terrifying, yet always beautiful circle of life

As was said, you're required by law to have liability insurance for your car. It made no sense in my situation to have collision insurance on a 30 year old car that the insurance company would only value at ~$1000 after declaring a total loss. If I had paid the extra $50/m for the 4 years I've had the car it would have been $2400 so that I could get $1000 back from the insurance company.

Also in addition to needing liability, it always makes sense to get more than the minimum you suggested. I think the minimum coverage in some liability plans start at $25,000, meaning any damage you cause in excess of that amount is no longer on the insurance company, and you could be sued for that amount. If you were to be the cause of a multi car accident, or if you were to ever cause any damage to a building or city property, you could easily rack up claims of over $100,000 and you could be taken to court for anything over what your liability insurance covers.

Ok, so get the minimum required Liability and purchase at least SOME coverage for Collision. I guess it just boggles my mind why you wouldn't have collision coverage...especially if its a car that you care about.

You can't drop liability, you MUST carry it.

Whassup jclist! My first post here...

Just moved to the "brick city" right next to the Van Horst Park. There's plenty of milfs that hang out there. I use my binoculars to scope out the area before I do the walkby...

Gargantuan, if you wanna go hunting, let me know...

Also mdev, sorry about your car but bro...why would you not have Collision coverage in NJ (of all places)? If you were looking to skimp on coverage, you should've dropped the Liability portion and went for only Collision. Chances are you probably don't drive you car often in JC, meaning your chances of being liable for an accident are slim. Since your car is parked on the road all the time, damage is likely to occur so why would you not want to have Collision coverage?

Why do you think it's dumb to say one wants to go milf-hunting in an area where there is a high concentration of milfs?

If one is into milfs this is actually really smart, which is the exact opposite of dumb.

Do you have something against milfs? Or people who like them? I think maybe you should check your prejudices at the door when you post on jclist man, this is a diverse community and it's not cool to judge people based on their sexual preference.

Guys. You are arguing with the guy who said he wanted to go milf hunting? He is clearly a moron and should be ignored like if a child were to come in the room and spout of nonsense. Clearly this guy is dumber than dirt.

Actually, my line "The "blame the victim" mentality I've seen exhibited by some on these boards is obnoxious." was his from another post.

Ummm isn't JC designed in such a way that most people park on the streets? I care about my car and take good care of it and can not afford to spend money on a monthly parking spot. That is ridiculous. If you don't know the rules of driving (i.e. are driving drunk) or respect other people's property/lives, you shouldn't be driving. Period.

I was parked on Erie and had my car practically totaled a few months back. The driver was drunk driving at 3am and hit 3 other cars. Thank god there was a witness who called the cops and stopped the woman from driving and killing herself or others.
How could this possibly be anyone's fault but her own?

Are you covered by insurance if the car is stolen or somehow bursts on fire !

I have a voicemail message into Thomas Van Valkenburgh, head of operations at the incinerator authority asking if he had any vehicles report back in after their shift with damage. Let's see if he calls back...

would make sense if it was some city vehicle, perhaps the workers were drunk and feared losing their jobs.... better to take a chance on leaving the scene and not getting caught/saving their jobs -- then get hit with a DUI and termination.

no streetsweeper at 1:30am...

maybe the bucket (which flips) from front to back over the top. of course the garbage truck could come through after finishing a different area. like he did varick one-way but had to get out

After showing him the pictures, my boss is insisting that it was a piece of industrial equipment (like a frontloader) to hit that low and cause that much damage.

It looks like white paint on the car, though I'm not sure if that's paint from another car or the original paint job on my car that showed through after (I know it was repainted at some point before I bought it.)

The garbage truck had already come through a few hours before, so I'm not sure why they would have been coming through again.

this is a distinct possibility..... the damage to my rear bumber appears to be struck by a vehicle with a bumper higher off the ground than a regular car but i suppose it could be an SUV as well..

I'm revising my theory: it was the recycling truck:

* operates at 1:30am on Sunday nights.
* has enough force, mass, and power to move the car laterally while sustaining minimal damage (few other cars would at such a speed).
* the loud banging sound of the crash could be confused with the truck's normal operations
* As was mentioned, "I thought it was a garbage truck hitting something behind us on York and didn't think to check out my front window." That, my friend, is your time-stamped earwitness.

Question: the other scraps of metal on the ground... what color/ make of car were they? If they're green, or don't exist, it's because it's the recycling truck.

First, there is a local body shop. It's on Bright/ Barrow. After that, what's the second most nearby one? Maybe on Brunswick/ Merseles/ Newark Ave?

Damn, I have to take a deep breath. I'm pissed with humanity right now over this hit-and-run, but on the other hand, I'm relieved that so many thoughtful people have spoken up. Many of these folks are locals to VVP and Bright Street in particular.

In fact, to cut through Bright Street en route to Monmouth Street... I feel only a local would do that. If you're driving on Grand you could continue to Monmouth, so why turn on Jersey and then left onto Bright? To get on Bright Street from the dead end part is a pain as well because of the sharp turn by the framing store. If driving on Jersey or Varick towards Grand, why turn onto Bright? But, if you're on Varick... you have to go onto Bright.

All the permutations... the options... the absence of bars in this particular neighborhood...

I believe it was someone local. Drunk drivers are sloppy drivers, but their decisions/ directions/ inclinations about choosing the route may be perfectly fine. I don't know.

Whatever the class and economic implications of the suggestions in earlier posts (stolen car... those scumbags... dregs of society....), we have no way of knowing what happened. But, this neighborhood is only so big. Somebody saw or heard something. Some community investigation and handbills fliers could get the process moving. Or, a private detective.

Just think of it: with very little effort you got support from many people here. (Which took them very little effort). For a car as beautiful and valuable as yours... there are other cameras and witnesses out there. Somewhere. However, I see the frustation with pursing those options when there are no results.

Yes, it's a turbo diesel. There is no insurance check as I only had liability and since I don't know who hit the car, there's no insurance to collect from.
