Never pay more than $40 to get from Manhattan to JC. Negotiate it before you get in the cab (start by offering $30), and as someone said before, be willing to say no and move on to the next guy who comes along. Also, don't tip on the $40. For that much cash to drive me 2 or 3 miles, consider the tip included.

I see people who sleep outside downtown all the time, so it must be safe.

What they really need to do to Newark Ave. is get rid of all the 99 cent stores and crappy newsstands that do nothing but sell lottery tickets and open up some respectable businesses like TGI Friday's or something. I have a feeling the junkies, hookers, and creepy old guys would soon follow.

I'm confused.

I liked their burgers but went in there several weeks ago looking for one and was told they don't serve burgers anymore.

Did they change their menu again?

I hear ya sister! I was running once down Communipaw and some guy comes up along side me in his car blasting Chamillionaire or some such crap, and I'm pretty sure he was actually touching himself while he was driving along side me!

Oh, but they are actually one in the same. You see young cybertramp, there is a special time in every MILF's life when she matures into a hot, sexy Cougar. It's all just a normal part of nature's sometimes fascinating, sometimes terrifying, yet always beautiful circle of life

Why do you think it's dumb to say one wants to go milf-hunting in an area where there is a high concentration of milfs?

If one is into milfs this is actually really smart, which is the exact opposite of dumb.

Do you have something against milfs? Or people who like them? I think maybe you should check your prejudices at the door when you post on jclist man, this is a diverse community and it's not cool to judge people based on their sexual preference.

Why would anyone be so dumb as to park a car that they care about on the street?

You get what you deserve if you're that trusting/naive that you think you can park on the street in Jersey City without some garbage truck or drunk or everyday jersey driver ruining your car.

Budget taxi is always $25 to Newark. They've always been reliable about picking me up on time. Also, you can call them from the airport when you arrive and they will pick you up within minutes and give you the same rate going back.

Thanks for the recommendation. I used them and found Budget to be affordable ($25 is pretty good to Newark), polite, reliable, and professional.

Thank you! We live in a CITY, an urban area that is home to lots of disadvantaged individuals. Crime (unfortunately) is going to happen here. No mayor or police chief in the world is going to save you from crime in JC.

Yes, our "esteemed"elected leaders could probably do a lot better job. But to really help the crime problem, as a society we need to address the difficult problems. We all need to work to help improve the underlying economic, educational, and social factors that are really the root causes of crime. just my $0.02

How ironic. Yesterday, you called somebody's tragically deceased relative a "nut case" in a staggering demonstration of tactlessness. No offense.

None taken.

1) The linked article itself said the guy "snapped"
2) The guy jumped onto and held onto a moving bus. These are not normally the actions of a sane person.

Saying that I was tactless for pointing it out (blaming the messenger) may be a valid argument . But you can't really argue that what I said was not valid.

On the other hand, arguing that it's somehow this guy's or the escalator's fault he was assaulted by a JCPD cop is not a valid argument. See the difference?

Next time I'll choose a different word other than "obnoxious". Maybe something more like "retarded" will work better.

The "blame the victim" mentality I've seen exhibited by some on these boards is obnoxious.

Alastor is not out of line to request common courtesy on the escalator. It's not the escalator's fault for existing or being too narrow, and it's not Alastor's fault if he is in a hurry and wants to walk up the escalator. He politlely asked the big guy to move.

The big guy is an asshole for not moving, and he physically assaulted Alastor, which makes him a criminal. Some people may see this as a "minor" crime, but it's still a crime, and you would feel differently if you, or your mom, was the one who was shoved by this jerk.

Finally, the attitude that the JCPD showed should disgust and insult anyone who payes taxes and lives here. Shame on anyone who isn't outraged by this.

If they really want to increase safety, I would suggest better traffic patrols and cops instructed to actually hold people accountable for their crappy driving.

People in JC (and all of northern NJ, really) tend to act like traffic laws in general do not apply to them. I see crazy, clueless, stupid, rude, "me first" crap every single day, and if I see one more idiot almost kill someone while holding their cell phone to their head, I'm going to freaking lose it!

I want to change from Comcast to a different broadband internet provider. I too would like to know whether there are other providers available in JC. There is no fios yet where I live and the satellite thing is not an option. Am I stuck with Comcast for internet service?
