Does anyone have any new recommendations for floor guys? I tried two of the suggestions on this thread, one never got back to me and I haven't been able to reach them since, the other finally came out and gave me an estimate after several missed appointments. I'd like to get another estimate as well as another opinion on how to go about refinishing my old pine floors.
Would love to hear what some of you used on your old floors; water/oil based poly, tung oil, waterlox ? Thanks!

It's the kitchen of a rental unit, maybe it's just a bad idea in such a high traffic area. It's a shame, the boards do look in pretty good shape compared to some I've seen.

I used Conquer for just this type of job. Came out beautiful (and as you all know, i hate everything and everyone)! A lot depends on the condition of the boards, but they do a great job sanding, filling, etc. Keep in mind the pine is a softwood and will ding easily. Dog nails, high heels, etc. WILL leave marks. If you can live with that, fine.

Anyone have experience with getting old wide pine subfloors sanded & finished? I think these are 5/4 x 5 and are in pretty good shape. I'd rather do that than put down laminate if I have a choice. I just wonder how well they'd turn out and hold up.

Avoid Conquer. They're sloppy. The longer I live with my floors the more I regret I hired them.

Hey does anyone have any contractor recommendations to refinish my hardwood floors? Also, I was considering Conquer Hardwood Floors. Has anyone ever used them?

Hi Nori,
What is the feedback on the contractors you used? Hope your project went well.

I'm getting my floors sanded and finished tomorrow, will let you know the results. If good, I'll pass on their contact info.
Does anyone know how long it takes for the finish to dry? For one of the previous posts, if you want them to get the flooring done same day, I would try to get some of the furniture out of the way or try to help move it around while they are installing the floors.

Hardwood Floor Installation

I'm looking to replace my hardwood flooring and carpeting. I'm looking for a good hardwood floor installer in the JC area who can handle what is mostly a simple situation with one difficult issue. I would most likely be using a pre-finished hardwood.
I'll need some of the flooring installed under a wall/desk unit which is currently sitting above the current flooring and also attached to the wall. It will be very difficult to dismantle this wall unit, so I'm hoping to find someone who can take on the job of slightly lifting the wall unit while removing the carpeting and sliding the new wood under it. Additionally, do floor installation crews typically move furniture around as they are doing installs, or does one have to clear out the room for them prior to their working?

Antonio (973) 886 8276. Him and his father have YEARS of experience between them and are always looking to do side jobs. Just mention JClist to him. He is a JC resident.

We're moved in to our new place in Lincoln Park, and I thought I'd share a couple of numbers of contractors who were fantastic. The first is KBJ Wood Flooring, Inc. They are in Elizabeth at 1-800-825-1498. The owner, Jack, is pretty surly sometimes on the phone, and when his crew got here I spent all this time going through all of the various repairs, etc. on our parquet floors, and they seemed rather bored with my monologues.
So I was concerned at their seeming lack of interest in my particular floor opinions. Then I left the place and they did a better job than I could have even imagined with parquet repairs, etc. They did an amazing job between the spindles on the stairs and got completely under the radiators. In summary, I suppose they knew more about floors than me and had already seen the problems I pointed out to them a billion times and knew how to deal with those problems without my "help." I repeat, the job they did was amazing. The estimates we got were between $1900 and $2500, and they came in at $2250.

I used Alpine Custom Floors (Office: 201-533-0100) a few years ago and thought they did a great job and the price was good.
