They are very nice and they have even let us sample a few things we asked about. Absolutely, that has always been my experience as well anywhere I've gone in Little India. Especially if you get a chance to talk to the owners, they are always eager to answer your questions.

I'd agree with JSalt.
Dosa Hut used to be good till a year back, when management changed. After that they've changed around few of the chutneys and raised prices marginally, making them not so likeable. I've taken a preference to Dosa House. It's cleaner (relatively) looking, the chutneys are more authentic and the food is overall better. As for what to order, I'd suggest getting the idli/vada/masala dosa combination. Those three items are basically the staple of south indian food (much like going for a pepperoni pizza in the US). All the other stuff on the menu, you can experiment with if you take a liking to the basic stuff.

dosa hut definitely has the best south indian food on the strip.
for parking, there s a paid parking lot 2 blocks up (towards JFK blvd) from there and a free parking lot 2 blocks down (towards Tonnelle ave)

I'm not Indian, but I know what Indians look like and when I walk in Dosa Hut, it is packed with them. I think it's good, they think it's good. Everybody's happy! Prices are good too. And if you don't know what anything is on the menu, the people there are very patient about questions.
I like to make an evening of it by timing my vists to Loews movie nights.

I agree it's a nightmare to drive down that stretch of Newark during popular hours, but I've always (as in many dozens of times) found parking within a couple blocks. Try further up Newark (like near Casa Dante) or any of the side streets off Newark.

There's also Sri Ganesh's Dosa House right down the block. The Village Voice has reviewed both:

Love, love, love Dosa Hut. The dearth of parking and traffic on those streets is such that now I just park at the Path garage and walk over.

Has anyone been here? Yay or Nay? I'm looking for a place to get a uttapam with coconut chutney in JC and I have no clue where to go.
Any other South Indian recommendations in JC or surrounding areas?
