Taking a helicopter to attend your kids sports game is bad. But quibbling over the governor using a helicopter to get around the state on official business is silly.
Let's put the numbers in perspective. Here's the White House's budget for new helicopters: http://news.yahoo.com/obamas-20-billi ... -094500298--politics.html Quote:

I'm glad that one of the fattest men in NJ is on a ride along during the "daily homeland security missions". This makes a lot of sense since if these people actually did find something, I'm sure Christie will come in great handy during the fight... The best governor we've had in a long time was bounced out of office because it was claimed that the office of homeland security was super important in NJ and it shouldn't be used to hire any old nobody. Now, we have the governor using those homeland security missions as his helicopter rides... right.

Yes, flying a helicopter is flying a helicopter, regardless of where it goes. Is that so hard to understand? Besides, that ride was paid for by the Governor. And isn't it ironic that the State Police strongly recommended using helicopters MORE because of the near fatal accident that Democratic Governor Corzine had due to his speeding limo?

Seriously? So transporting the governor to a baseball field falls under "daily homeland security missions" and "flight training"...? The argument makes no sense.

OK, Pebs, since we know that Governor Christie uses helicopters waaaaaay less than previous Governors, and his usage has spiked a little bit because of the largest disaster in NJ history, and besides it doesn't add a penny to the cost of running the state-do you have a point?
"It is important to understand that State Police helicopters fly daily homeland security missions and use flight time for training purposes, more so lately as we acclimate our pilots to the new aircraft," State Police Superintendent Rick Fuentes said in a written statement. "Therefore, there is no additional cost to taxpayers or the State Police budget, nor is there any interference with our daily mission by adding the state's chief executive to any of these trips," Fuentes said. "Any flights transporting the governor would be subordinated to priority needs for our aircraft including rescue and emergent law enforcement missions."

Florio was a failure all over the place. Saying that he abused the helicopter use would be piling onto an already large pile. It?s simple: If you are going to complain about the state budget and claim that everyone needs to cut back, well? Walk the walk. Either the state has the money to blow on helicopter rides costing thousands upon thousands of dollars or it doesn?t.

It was less? How do you know how much they've spent, or spent time devoted to this partisan dog and pony show? Mayor Fulop sends over information and Whizzy and Whiney don't share it with Republicans on the crack committee, and they've also previously withheld information from them. So much for an honest, bi-partisan committee when the Democrats in charge withhold information from other members for political reasons. And still, not a single shred to connect Christie to a couple (shocking, in NJ!) traffic jams.

It was less. Also, unlike Christie's lawyers, they are actively trying to interview them and get their documents. And also unlike Christie's lawyers, they are making a big public deal about trying to get ahold of them, suing them in state court. They didn't just pretend to issue a "comprehensive" report and conveniently forget to tell everyone they didn't speak with the main players.

I have been bashing on Christie as much as everyone but Monroe is right about this. What is the big deal?
The link neverleft quoted said Christie flew in the helicopter 23 times in 2010, then 66 and then 70. Meanwhile, Democrat McGreevy used it 277 times in his first year alone, while Democrat Florio flew 2,319 times. How could one person possibly require 2,319 helicopter flights in one governor term? Was he flying to pick up nightly dinner? Also I find it funny that a partisan hack here tried to cite to Christie's helicopter flights to somehow support unions, while not realizing that his Democrats used the helicopter exponentially more, lol. Save your outrage for Christie for where it matters, such as him paying his attorneys $1 million of taxpayer money to write a "report" that failed to interview the key players in the whole scandal, Wildstein, Kelly, Stepien, or Samson. This whole thread is a red herring.

A close look at the facial expression from the dude on the far right (suit) is saying "Damn, how are we going to get his fat ass into the helicopter?" Sorry fat-ass ... I'm mean Christie, get your sorry ass out of the helicopter, you don't fit The fat-ass walk of shame

Er, since Christie used the State Police helicopter much less, even after Sandy, than previous Governors
what's the issue? lol?

I heard they have to use a Chinook as it's the only helicopter available that can accommodate his great mass.

Who said it was ok when Democrats were doing it? Oh wait! That's your argument! I'm sorry, but Christie doesn't get to waddle around the state claiming that we have to cut teacher salaries and kill union contracts while the man jumps in a helicopter to check out his kid's peewee baseball game. The guy needs to walk the walk if he's going to talk the talk. As of right now, he's done a crapload of talking and a hell of a lot more of just sitting around.

?The flights last year compare with 23 in 2010, his first year in office; 66 in 2012; and 70 in 2011, records show.?
** * Gee lets thank Gov. Christie(R) for saving us taxpayers some money. Look at how many times these guys(D) flew. nj.com 4/12/2012: ?Christie uses the helicopter less than many of his predecessors. Former Gov. James McGreevey used the helicopter 277 times in his first year in office, and Gov. Jim Florio flew 2,319 times during his four-year term. ?

Pebs, get out the reading glasses. From the article that made you so happy, we learn that a) all personal and political rides get reimbursed and b) there is no cost anyway to the taxpayers for transporting him because they have to use air time for training and other purposes, according to the State Police. Drewniak last year told Bloomberg that the state receives reimbursement for Christie?s personal and political use of the aircraft. Taxpayers bear no expense for transporting governors because the crews fly training or security missions daily, according to a 2012 statement from the New Jersey State Police. The police aviation unit has estimated the helicopters cost $2,500 an hour to operate.

A totally stupid argument unless you want to compare Christie's copter use vs previous Governors who used the State Police copter. (As I recall, Corzine preferred private copters-no doubt as he carried on his adulterous affair with union rep Carla Katz).
In fact, Christie's use of copters is quite low historically, at least until we had a little thing called FREAKIN HURRICANE SANDY did billions of dollars of damage to NJ and he needed to use copters more. But keep beating the drum, since there still isn't a shred of evidence tying Christie to the traffic jams-although many of you got moist hoping the flight logs of his copter rides during the traffic jam time would show a fly by-and were crushed when they didn't, lol.

$2,500 per hour to carry this man... But union contracts are bloated...
This state will be in such better shape when he's gone on to get the Fox News gig he's pretty much guaranteed.

N.J.?s Christie Used Chopper Almost Every Three Days
By Elise Young Apr 30, 2014 4:23 PM ET 0 Comments Email New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is relying on the state-owned helicopter fleet more than ever, with 106 trips last year at a cost of $2,500 an hour. Flight logs for Christie, a 51-year-old Republican, were released to Bloomberg as a result of a New Jersey Open Public Records Act request. Christie has stepped up his air time even as he imposes municipal budget constraints and insists that public workers must pay higher costs for pensions and benefits... http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-04 ... ost-every-three-days.html
