Fulop's administration has been a circus, maybe he is trying to protect himself from himself?

I find this rather amusing. Exactly what venue would be big enough to host a circus in Jersey City anyway?
Furthermore, why pay to go to a circus in Jersey City when you can go to a city council meeting instead and get the same kind of entertainment for free? Well, during the Healy days council meetings were like that. I haven't been to one in a long time maybe it's not so entertaining anymore. Glad to hear that the council and mayor have their priorities straight here.

While facts have obviously not stopped you from propagating falsehoods in the past, the notion that circus animals are always killed when the circus closes is simply not true. There are a number of sanctuaries and rescue organizations who facilitate their transfer when returning to the wild is not an option. For example: The Performing Animal Welfare Society

This victory may finally give the Mayor enough leverage to go after Jersey City's notorious snipe ranchers. I drove past the Caven Point facility last week and was dismayed to see how the poor creatures were still being treated after all these years.
It also might be time to get serious about Jersey City's whaling industry. I don't understand why he has literally been silent on the topic. Does he have a special relationship with the whalers?

So please tell, when was an elephant or giraffe spotted in JC? As I state before, these animals are born in captivity. It they don't earn their keep, they are put to sleep (fancy term for being killed.)

Only Yvonne would find the bad in banning the exploitation of exotic animals.
Whatever the reason Fulop decided to do it, can we at least agree that elephants and and other exotics do not belong in circuses where they do not receive adequate veterinary care, food, or husbandry.

Come on, you know better. The problem is that Fulop needs more ammo for his governor campaign, and this ban can be another bulletpoint on his campaign promotional materials.

Let's get real, Fulop proposed this legislation because it would get his name in the press. It was on tv all day long. You are correct, there are no circus animals here. This is a publicity stunt.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. This legislation affects exactly zero people or animals. We don't have circuses or other wild & exotic animal displays in Jersey City as it is. I don't think anyone is going to bemoan the revenue they won't earn in Jersey City, which they weren't earning to begin with.

That was pretty much the case in Thailand with the elephants (which were used as tractors well into the late 20th century). Then somebody figured out you could teach elephants how to paint. The paintings pay for their upkeep. https://youtu.be/rvEEooI4pDA

Circus animals today are breed, they cannot be released into the wild. These animals cost money to feed, there are also veterinarian bills. If these animals cannot produce economically, then they would be destroyed.

Jersey City circus ban given final OK By JERSEY CITY — A measure intended to ban circuses from Jersey City was adopted by the City Council tonight to a round of applause from a group of animal lovers. The city law, which was adopted by a 7-1-1 vote, prohibits performances of certain exotic animals. Mayor Steve Fulop has said he proposed the new law after a circus recently visited Bayonne. The law appears to be the first in New Jersey that bans circuses on private property. Bergen County forbids wild and exotic animal shows on county land.
