Scrutiny for Manzo, please

Monday, October 06, 2008
Letters to the Editor
From the Jersey Journal

What a discrepancy! On one hand we have Gov. John Corzine introducing Mayor Healy as one of the country's finest mayors, and on the other hand we have Lou Manzo trying to have Mayor Healy disgraced publicly. What are the citizens of Jersey City supposed to make of this? It seems to me that Mr. Manzo, if in office in the [thin]'50, would have tried to have Elvis Presley and his fans locked up for having a little fun. I have seen Jerramiah Healy dining out, supporting local restaurants and musicians. I have never seen him intoxicated or anything but a perfect gentleman having fun with the crowd and singing a few songs. While Mr. Manzo throws his first stones at our mayor, maybe The Jersey Journal should take a peek in his window.

======================

Healy is a gem, and you're not

Letters to the Editor
From the Jersey Journal

In the world-famous county of Hudson, whose most famous export for many years was corruption, cronyism, nepotism, and rascalism, I find it mind-boggling that your writer, Agustin Torres, continues to bash an honest, hardworking mayor like Jerramiah Healy with his one-sided verbiage. It seems appropriate that Agustin leaves the "U" out of his first name because he doesn't give a damn about "U," the citizens of Jersey City.

When Barack Obama was still a longshot, Mr. Healy was the only white Democratic leader with guts enough to stand up for him. Our good mayor was one of the first to dig in personally to help Hudson Catholic stay open. Jerry had the guts to come to the aid of a couple being mistreated by overzealous Shore cops and for this a four-time loser like Manzo and a two-bit writer like Torres try to crucify him.

Whose interests does Mr. Torres really serve? Something smells foul to me. Mayor Healy is a rare Jersey City gem.

I really like Healy - posting an article doesn't mean I agree with the writer. I like people in Jersey City to be as informed as possible.

BTW -- From an article by the same author cited above, Al Sullivan, came this interesting Healy tidbit:

At a recent event, "Corzine gave Healy a boost, calling him the best mayor in the country."

I noticed that "Grove Path" never has anything nice to say regarding any thread always negative and hurting of another party he does not know personally , a good therapist might be able to help this poor miserable soul out, Mayor Healy has done a wonderful job while in office and if he needs to enjoy himself and blow off some steam and why should he be denied that , he is not breaking any laws or abusing his authority. As far as the case in Bradley Beach who has not witnessed a case where bad cops have overexercised there authority, Mayor Healy is a highly educated successful attorney, most police education does not exceed a high school diploma with a good percentage of them abusing there authority both domestically civilly.

Conduct unbecoming a mayor?

By Al Sullivan
Hudson Reporter
09/27/2008

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy may well get angry behind closed doors over the recent lawsuit by mayoral hopeful Louis Manzo, but judging by his recent hit video on Youtube and his other live music performances, Healy is trying to give off the perception that he is not fazed by the push to have him step down until his legal appeals have been heard.

Some people see Healy's musical renditions as tasteless taunts hardly dignifying the highest office in the second biggest city in New Jersey.

Prior to his most recent rendition at the Irish Festival in Jersey City, rumors claimed Healy would be stepping down soon, until the legal questions are resolved concerning his confrontation with police in Bradley Beach last year.

The Irish Festival performance appeared to allay these rumors, but more importantly raises questions about the mayor's public persona. Healy, who is among the state's most ardent supporters of gun control, is singing about shooting people in Avon and Bradley Beach to the tune of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues."

Other public officials who attended the festival appeared to see nothing ironic about this. In fact, U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg even danced.

Manzo's lawsuit, filed earlier this month, asked for Healy to be removed from office, comparing the Healy situation to Newark Councilwoman Dana Rone, whom the Essex County Prosecutor's Office is seeking to remove after the state court upheld her 2006 convention for obstruction of justice resulting from a 2006 traffic stop.

While perhaps asking Healy to step down may be going too far, it is not too much for the public to demand that a mayor and former municipal judge convicted of a crime refrain from performances that show arrogance against the system of justice Healy has sworn an oath to uphold.

You don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Too bad he didn't get thrown in the slammer - he would be singing (or should I say squealing) a different tune!

When I read the title of this thread, my first thought was that Healy was joining Bobby J. in the witness protection program.

No such luck.

Saw him belt it out at PJ Ryan's the day of the JC St. Paddy's parade. I seriously almost split my sides laughing. It almost wants to make me want to vote for him.

I know people have issues with Jerry Healy, but I think he is the true Pimp of Jersey City.

For those of you who missed it... This was a performance this past Saturday by Mayor Healy at a fundraiser at Lucky 7's singing HIS version of a classic Johnny Cash song...Bradley Beach prison. Hey, no one can accuse him of not having a good sense of humor (and a pretty good voice to boot) This is PRICELESS!!!!! Enjoy!!!!!!
