Re: Registering Vehicle in JC

For moving purposes, you can get "No Parking" signs from the Jersey City Parking Authority. You can call them about 2-3 weeks in advance and pay for the signs - I believe they are $10 each (and you have to buy two). They will even hang them for you so when you arrive you have somewhere for your moving truck to park.

Temporary Permit: This you will have to do in person: They will also issue you a temporary parking permit, I believe which is valid for 30 days, then when you officially get your registration changed to NJ at Motor Vehicle, you go back to JCParking Authority and they will issue you a permanent resident permit (valid for 1 year).

Another good thing to do while you are at JCparking Authority is pick up a couple daily visitor passes (they are $3 each, and valid for a couple years). These will come in handy if you have friends visit during the week, or forget to go back to JCPA within the 30 days, to switch your pass over to permanent resident permit.

Lastly, they have rules that change constantly in terms of what type of payment they accept. Bring your checkbook, have cash on hand, and be prepared to buy a money order (which you can do at the US post office next door), and they do not accept Credit Cards. Cash is only good for the $3 daily visitor passes- but only up to $9 worth(or 3), if it's more than that you'll need a money order. But again, this was a few months ago, and there rules about money CHANGE CONSTANTLY.

" I think the city should be tasked with clearing the snowbanks at every intersection, but a week has come and gone and they are not going to do it. "

I thought I had seen it all until last night - I was driving home on Kennedy Blvd, and I saw this guy in a wheelchair SHOVELING snow out of a crosswalk/ramp area. We are all complaining about how bad it is on foot, imagine what life in JC is like for those poor people confined to wheelchairs/walkers, etc.

Jersey City needs to step it up and take responsibility!!!!! Get the crosswalks/ramps/corners cleared, and enforce the law for business and homeowners who haven't cleared their property.

Re: Car booted - no outstanding tickets, when can they legally boot?

I just came from the parking authority....

I'm in the same boat. My car was hit and run swideswiped, it's in the repair shop, and they gave me a rental car. The rental has NY plates, and I know from reading JClist, as well as observing out of state plate cars booted all the time around here, I need to be really careful.

So, I went up there to buy visitor permits today.

Here's the interesting part. I said to her..."well I'll just take the visitor's passes, since the rental has NY plates, and I don't want to take any chances with it getting booted around here. I know how quickly out of state cars, even without previous violations, get booted." ...

And no kidding, she kind of chuckled, with a guilty smile/smirk ...and she said....."um....yeah".

So, my advice, contact Fulop's office, he's been trying to fight this illegal booting thing for a while now, and demand some action. From my point of view today, they KNOW what they are doing is illegal, but yet continue to do it.

Re: JC Post Office - Be Very Afraid

Thought I would chime in...

Changed my address at the JC Post office on November 7th, 2009 (for a start date on November 12th) even though I wasn't moving until Dec 1st. I was told by the post office worker that it takes 5 - 6 weeks for a forward to start (Five to Six weeks, Seriously? - Okay).

I moved from 7th Street downtown (07302) to 2nd Street downtown (07302). Same zip code. Same post office.

So, in effect my mail isn't even going to a new post office, just a new mail carrier leaving from the JC Post office.

However, now it is January 20th, and I'm receiving mail (for example Kohl's sale fliers) that were supossed to be delivered between Dec 10-Dec 14th.

I've changed all my important bills, so it's more of a laugh than a problem.

I just find it kind of pathetic, that even though by Dec 14th, my forward was already in place for a month, it took another full month for a piece of mail to get from one mail carrier to another (at the same post office)

7th & Eire Deli

Hey everyone - They've expanded their menu as of yesterday. Now they are making hot food.

I just had a falafel sandwich for $3. I'm no expert, but it was pretty good and a great price. They've also added burgers, hot sandwiches, fries, soup and other stuff like that. Also, they carry Boars Head meats and cheeses.

Oh yea, and they also gave me a taste of today's soup (chicken barley) and a couple fries - also really good.

Also on the menu, but haven't tried...hummus, grape leaves, kebab's, and everything of that variety.

Everything (with the exception of boars' head obviously), is made from scratch.

I don't work for them, but they are really nice, and basically my local deli. I get a bagel from them pretty often. It's not express fast NYC service, so be patient, especially since they are just starting the hot food menu.

Support local business. Hamilton park needs this place to stay open. Also, they deliver.

Re: Stop Signs on Erie Street - Steven FUlop

As a resident of the HP area for 7 years (not a newbie, yet not a long timer), I believe the speed limit on Eire should be reduced to 15 mph.

I've lived here, for 7 years and had a car the whole time, I still slow down (not stop) and look both ways at each intersection to be aware of oncoming cars/walkers & dogs attempting to cross at each intersection.

The legal limit is 25, yet even as an established resident aware of crossing/ intersection areas, I cannot bring myself to speed up to 25 on Eire. It just doesn't seem safe, and I know where to look for pedestrians.

I personally do not believe 25 is an appropriate speed for this area.

I grew up in NJ, Have been driving in NJ for 17 yrs, and I believe 25 is too fast for Eire. What about the people who aren't from around here and do not take the precauctions I do?

Reduce the speed limit to 15mph, less accidents and collect a ton of money of tickets.

Any suggestions on what the signs should say?

We need some sort of catch phrase that's short sweet and to the point.

Let the brainstorming session begin........

For those of you who missed it... This was a performance this past Saturday by Mayor Healy at a fundraiser at Lucky 7's singing HIS version of a classic Johnny Cash song...Bradley Beach prison. Hey, no one can accuse him of not having a good sense of humor (and a pretty good voice to boot) This is PRICELESS!!!!! Enjoy!!!!!!
