Decriminalize drugs and heavily tax and regulate them. Gangs wont have as much of a purpose without the drug trade.

Four men arrested near Ferris High School in Jersey City after police discover knives tucked inside books: officials

Four Jersey City men were arrested Tuesday night near Ferris High School after police discovered two of them in possession of knives hidden inside books tucked in their waistbands, officials said.

Police belived the four were planning to retaliate for a lunchtime melee earlier in the afternoon in which a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the shoulder and a 17-year-old boy was hit in the head bat.

Jose Aquino and Eddy Almonte, both 18, were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, while two 17-year old minors were charged with gang criminality, according to police.
Two officers observed the group walking west on Columbus Ave toward Monmouth Street at 6:14 p.m., heading in the direction of Ferris High School. One male in the group appeared to be shifting an object inside his waistband, officials said.

Officers stopped the four at Monmouth Street and Mercer Avenue, and Aquino, identified as a known Tinatario Gang member, then placed his hand into his waistband, according to reports.

Officers advised Aquino to remove his hands from his waist band but Aquino refused, police said. An officer searching Aquino found a book tucked into his waistband, and inside the book found a long, silver kitchen knife, reports said.
The officer tossed the knife to the ground and, after a brief struggle, officers arrested Aquino, according to reports.
Attention then turned to Almonte, who also appeared to place his hands in his waistband area, police said. After placing him in a police car, police discovered a silver-colored knife with a black handle on the floor of the cruiser, reports said.

Almonte, wearing three pairs of sweatpants, was also in posession of three marijuana-filled cigars, according to police.

The two 17-year-old boys, one of whom was in possession of a blue, red and green rosary beads commonly used to represent Trinatario's colors, were charged with gang criminality, police said.

How do you expect 1500 JC teens to get their lunch and return to class in time to eat? Chances are the brawls would still go on at the lunch lines or in the halls. I guess if you never went to Ferris, Dickinson, Snyder or Lincoln it's hard to understand how JC teens think. Most of these brawls are gang related, gangs don't care where they fight or who is there. As someone who went to a JC high school trust me their is more violence inside the schools then you think. The trouble students are constantly looking for new ways to beat the system. For example I remember when the metal detectors were first announced more kids brought weapons to school then usual to see how strong the system was. The doors had magnetic locks to go in and out the building and if you push or pull for 5-7 seconds they open so that means anyone can go in and out and bring in anything they want.

If there isn't an adequate cafeteria facility, why can't the students just eat in classrooms? My grammar school did that because there wasn't a cafe. Kitchen stayed open and kids used the break between class and lunch to go get lunches and then ate at their desks. It would guarantee that the groups of kids would be smaller and more manageable and like someone else said, there would be a need for police presence only after school instead of twice a day.

I think this happens at large schools. I grew up in the suburbs and stuff like this happened at the high school in my district and the high school in the next town.

eh as long as they are just stabbing each other not random innocents. it's going to happen unfortunately. teenagers are dumb and they don't understand how to resolve their anger and they have a tendency to become violent.. especially if in a gang.

16-year-old Ferris High School student stabbed at lunchbreak, two others injured in 'riot' attack by 'group'

Two Ferris High School students were seriously injured yesterday when they were attacked during their lunch break.

Jersey City police spokesman Stan H. Eason said a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the shoulder with a sharp object believed to be a knife, while a 17-year-old boy was hit in the head with a stick, but their injuries weren?t life threatening.

Eason said at least four young men took part in the attack, and at least one is believed to be a Ferris student. Police believe the attack wasn?t random and the teens knew their assailants. No arrests have been made.

The 16-year-old was stabbed on Brunswick Street near Christopher Columbus Drive at 12:10 p.m., according to police reports. He was treated and released at Jersey City Medical Center yesterday afternoon, officials said.

An employee at a pizzeria who witnessed part of the incident from the window of the store told The Jersey Journal yesterday that she saw the victim fall down at the crosswalk at First and Brunswick streets after at least two people hit him with sticks.

The witness said she did not see him being stabbed but when he was lifted off the pavement, the ?dazed? victim had a stab wound in the back.

A second victim, a 17-year-old Ferris student, told police he tried to intervene to help the first victim, but two people attacked him, at least one of them with a stick.

Police found this second victim at First and Coles streets bleeding from the head, reports said. He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was treated for a non-life threatening head wound, reports said.

Police met with a third victim at Ferris High School, a 16-year-old girl, who said someone hit her with an ?unknown object? on her head while she was trying to flee the fight, reports said.

?This was probably gang-related. It?s crazy,? said a 16-year-old student leaving the school yesterday afternoon. ?This always happens at this school. We always have riots. It?s going to happen again.?

Jersey City Public Schools spokeswoman Paula Christen said she was aware of the incident but did not have any details about what happened.

It most likely would lead to bigger brawls and more frequent brawls after school. Dickinson split up the lunch so all students couldn't go out at the same time and when they did it just led to more news worthy brawls/stabbings occurring after school. That school does not have a large enough cafeteria as well.

Hundreds of more times, since it isn't physically feasible to keep all the kids in. Build a new cafeteria and then you can.

How often does this rioting need to happen before they stop students from going out at lunchtime!

At least one student was stabbed this afternoon a few blocks from Ferris High School in Jersey City, police confirmed.

The stabbing occurred at about 12:30, at a time when Ferris students were allowed off school grounds for lunch. Initial reports of the incident indicated that two students were stabbed, but that could not be confirmed.
