I feel your pain, Greenville. I feel your pain.
Maybe if a tabby cat was shot in a taqueria while holding a backflow preventer in the Greenville section - then maybe someone would bother reading. Maybe. Probably not. Jeez - Icechute didn't even bother to give us the regular line. We got some sort of half baked version. Sucks to be from Greenville, that's all I can say.

The gun buy back, IMO, is indeed a good idea, but not really in terms of it's impact on crime.
IMO, most of the buy backs you'd see would be old, rusty, dusty guns that have been sitting in someone's closet for years. No question it would be better to be rid of these - it might help prevent things like kids shooting themselves (or others) by accident, and truthfully, it is one less *potential* gun on the street to be used for crime, but I highly doubt that true criminals would be lining up to get a few bucks (probably less than they just paid for it) for the gun they're planning on using. Just my opinion. Who knows, you might get a few "real" guns off the streets, and that would be great, but I don't think it would really make a significant dent. But hey, you have to start somewhere, and I guess every single gun out of play makes a potential difference.

I dont see how it could be negative - I know its no questions asked but its also guns off the street... either you want more people killed or to convict people... I dont agree with a lot of Healys crap... but I gotta say he is right with this one.

they did a gun buy back program, pushed for by healy i believe. heard some negative things about it at the mayoral debates by i believe smith (who's in law enforcement) about how it isn't a good program, but who knows. anything healy does is viewed as negative, at least to the majority on this board.

Just out of curosity... have we done a gun buy-back program in JC? the way the economy is now... we all could use some cash... They seem to have done very well in other cities... and if we dont have a program like that... how could someone go about getting one going?

the brain washing is already happening... that is why there has been a dramatic increase with people are buying guns all over the NJ / country... Enforce the laws... you have an illegal gun...you go to jail.... you use any gun to commit a crime... you do more time... kill/maim...enjoy your life at Rahway!

My guess is that none of the 14 homicides (so far) have been committed with legally owned guns. I'm not 100% sure of that as a fact, but I'd be very surprised if it turned out to be otherwise.
Tightening gun laws around here would have virtually no impact on crime. It would only be a political move used to further the brainwashing of the public.

Trambone.... first they came for the smokers.... and then they came for the guns owners next... aren't there plenty of laws for the illegal use of guns on the books... let's just enforce them... kinda like the nonsmoking laws... except in some bar's I think the city inspectors (re:Healy) are paid to ignore the violations

So why don't you try doing something about it icechute. Healy did. He tried to make gun control law in Jersey City, but he cannot supercede state and federal law.

3 bullets in back kills man, 14th city homicide this year
Wednesday, May 27, 2009 By TOM SHORTELL JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Shot three times in the back Monday night, a 27-year-old Greenville man has become Jersey City's 14th homicide victim this year and the county's 15th, officials said. Responding to reports of gunshots outside 143 Fulton Ave. late Monday, police found Kareem Hilliard, a resident of Bidwell Avenue, bleeding on the sidewalk, officials said. Hilliard was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m., said Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio. Police initially believed Hilliard was shot in the chest, but an autopsy Tuesday revealed he was shot three times in the back and at least one bullet exited through the chest, DeFazio said. William Hinton, who lives across the street from where the shooting happened, was in his kitchen when he heard three shots ring out. From his front door, he watched as the victim was wheeled into an ambulance. "I see it all the time. It's nothing new," Hinton said. Police have not identified any suspects or a motive for the shooting, but it does not appear to have been a robbery, DeFazio said. He also ruled out any connection with Sunday's shooting of 23-year-old Marion Ortiz at Rose and Grant avenues. Police now believe Ortiz's death was the result of a previous dispute with another person, DeFazio said. He would not give further details on the nature of the dispute or whether police have questioned the other person. The shooting represents the 14th murder in Jersey City this year. Last year, 16 murders were committed in the city through May 27, 2008.
