Yeah, she'll usually flash you her busted up smile on the street, but once you live in her place, all bets are off.
You should hear the place when he gets his check on the first of the month. Party time! He brings all his friends from the Barge Inn back to the house and pulls all nighters. Oh, and one time he disappeared with all of the 50/50 money he was collecting at the 6th Street Italian Festival.

Also lived there for three years. It might be one of the uglier blocks in downtown because of the driveways, siding, etc. but the block itself is mostly fine with a few exceptions, like most blocks.
Pluses: If you're on the northern side, you are butted up against either the embankment, community garden, or both Lots of old school neighbors, so it's a pretty friendly bunch Lots of parking available in the surrounding blocks Bodega and laundromat on the corner, White Star 3 blocks away, and about 8 pizza places within a 5 minute walk. Negatives: My gf's car got broken into twice on Brunswick between 5th and 6th, but that might have something to do with the fact that it was an older Honda Accord, and those are easy to get into because the keys can open pretty much any other Accord. Al, the guy with the two fat old dogs, is really nosey and annoying as hell. Concetta, the old lady in the pink house, can be heard at all hours yelling at the top of her lungs at her alcoholic son and brother-in-law. One time I saw her dump a full pot of spaghetti over his head. They were my landlords, and were unbearable to live above. I only mention this because I know that apartment just opened up for rent, and I wouldn't want you to be subjected to her. The guy on the corner of 5th and Brunswick with the picture frames covering his windows totally deals drugs out of his place.

I think Journal Square is the only PATH stop in Jersey City that fits your description. There are lots of multi-family houses in the vicinity. My only advice is be careful when you say you don't mind if it's rough, because rough by Jersey City standards can be pretty darn rough (stay away from anything considered Greenville). I think the southern end of the Heights neighborhood might be your best option, you'd probably be looking at a 10 minute walk to the PATH from that area.

It's a joke, because you never actually get the race in the description of the criminals. Like telling us the dude was 5'10 and skinny with jeans and a hoodie but not say whether it was a white guy, black guy, hispanic guy is really going to help narrow it down. God forbid they actually list someone's race for fear of being labeled racist/prejudiced.

Not necessarily, it could've been one of those things where you'd normally pull over because something's wrong, but you could still drive it if you thought your life was in danger. Maybe he pulled over because his radiator hose blew and he said "oh damn, I need to pull over because there's all this smoke coming out of my hood" but then after getting jumped decided that he didn't really care about doing further damage to the car and got in and drove it anyway. The wording of the article might not be the most accurate. Maybe it was more like car trouble and not a full breakdown.

I have to say, I think this is a really interesting idea. Maybe if the developer was smart he would've done that from the beginning and used the embankment walls as the outer structure of the condos. I bet nobody else in America would have a place like that.
But let's be fair, you really think something like this could be done for an amount like 300k? The removal of the insides would be a massive undertaking that would not only require getting some very heavy machinery on top of the embankment, but then you'd have get it all out before you could even begin to construct tennis courts, parks, etc. Good luck getting that done for under a couple million bucks. I still hope they just leave it as is. Quote:

Google Maps
This is an intersection in Greenville where 3 of the 4 corners are vacant lots. Forget feeling safe, that's probably the last place in Jersey City I'd want to find myself after dark. Or during the day. Or ever.

My vote still goes to just leaving it the hell alone. Don't put in condos the local infrastructure can't support, and don't try to turn it into a park that we can't afford, which even though would be a cool thing to have, would be nothing like the Highline in NYC.

Hasn't there been conversations recently about modifying the end of the Turnpike extension so there is a more direct artery to the waterfront area and to try to take some of the traffic out of the downtown area?

So I guess the point we keep coming back to (myself included for my observation of the Grand St. sit-in suggestion) is that until the people change, no amount of planning or enforcement will matter. People who are high/drunk and have no regard for other people's safety are going to do what they're going to do.

Good chance that if 50 people in the middle of Grand St. that at least 10 will be run over by some idiot speeding down Grand and not paying attention.
I'd suggest as a start that every intersection on Grand be made into a 4 way stop. A flashing red light at every intersection. If it's 4 lanes at certain intersections (like Jersey), then some lanes should be made into turn only lanes, so that every intersection only ever has one lane going straight. That way, people will be forced stop at every intersection and wouldn't be able to get up to excessively dangerous speeds at any stretch. It would be annoying as hell to drive down, but it could be helpful, and one of the less costly solutions.

Forget the fact that the cruise industry would never give up a spot, but if you think people in southern Jersey would be pissed about losing it to JC, imagine how all of Jersey would react about losing our own battleship to New York City.
