And still no reporting on this on NJ.com...

Probably 'cause it's fake news. I've never heard of this publication from the provided link below.

You never heard of Rlsmedia? It is a media site that deals with breaking news around NJ. They usually have stories posted much faster then the Jersey Journal.

Also how is it fake news when you commented after I posted the Jersey Journal article confirming it to be true?

Somehow I had trouble viewing, now that I can see your JJ post I deleted my reply. I guess nj.com finally reported it.

Home away from home

On Tuesday March 28th at 7:00 pm the Nelson Avenue Block Association will hold their monthly meeting in St. Anne's Centennial Hall auditorium 253 Congress St. between Kennedy Blvd. and Nelson Ave. in the vicinity of the Western Slope area up in the Heights. The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month. The evening's guest speaker will be Patrick G. Stamato, Director of the J.C. Department of Public Works. He will answer questions regarding city owned property and it's responsibilities along with garbage and recycling concerns. There will also be a representative from the J.C. Resident Response Center to answer general questions and the community police for crime concerns. New members are always welcomed and a good way to stay informed on neighborhood issues in your area. Hope to see you there.

243 2nd St -
Asking Price: 1.75 MM
Taxes (2015): 10.6 K (a whopping 0.6%)

If we end up at a 2% rate, the new taxes would be 35K. Even if we end up with a 1.8% rate, this property will pay 31.5K. I wonder if the seller, or their agent, will disclose that to potential buyers.

Tell me again how this reval is not overdue?

If they have to be told then they should continue to rent.

You should use an oil based stain killing primer that stops any bleed through. Brands such as Zinsser Stain Killer primer or Kilz. Make sure you primer the whole surface not just a spot prime or after you paint the top coat you will see where you've primed.

As citizens don't we have the right to swear ourselves in at the violations bureau in the city court house ? Just like motor vehicle tickets we should exercise our rights and fight these infractions if our elected officials will not.

A Jersey City police officer has been suspended without pay following his arrest on a drug charge in Bayonne last week.

Anthony Newell, an 11-year veteran of the police force, was arrested on March 1 at East Fourth Street and Lord Avenue along with 30-year-old Eileen Conway, of Jersey City, according to Bayonne police.

http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... ed_after_drug_arrest.html

strange that he wasn't fired?
Wondered why as well. Innocent until proven guilty? Union rules? Dunno. But he makes over $100k a year so now he's contemplating his future at home while we pay him over $8k/month.
Suspended without pay, won't cost us a dime.

I've been searching several different websites for the last few weeks and have actually found a handful of places under $1000 a month that seem perfect, and have actually been surprised that all of them have had a dishwasher (that's unheard of here), and a lot of them have had basement washer/dryer, and are relatively newly renovated.

I haven't had a landlord in 10 years - I'm getting divorced and we've always owned our house. Prior to that, the last place I lived was a 420 sq ft basement studio in the Central West End. Car jackings aside, it was a great space. Crime-wise, I guess I shouldn't be too worried. You guys have nothing on STL. lol

Anyway - I don't know what to do about all of the rent requirements other than show them a bank statement with $20K+ in it. It is what it is.

I guess my biggest question was whether or not it was worth it to spend the money on a broker.

suzychapstick wrote:
You can absolutely get a studio (or even 1 bedroom) for $1600 downtown in Jersey City. Just check zillow and use 07302. You can sure as heck spend MUCH more on a studeio, but it's not impossible. Prices will rise in the summer months like they do everywhere, but don't get scared off. I live in a gorgeous 1BR with hardwood floors, exposed brick, walk up in Paulus Hook for that much. There are places out there. Avoiding a broker fee is nice, but the real hit tends to be up front with the deposit.

Don't be put off by folks saying you'll be living in a tiny basement studio. (Unless, that's what you're wanting. )

akk4zd wrote:
I'd be working from home most of the time but would need to occasionally attend networking events and client meetings in the city, so I would prefer fast access.

I'd be selling my car before I move.

If I chose a studio, I'd be happy with a minimum 500 square feet. I lived in one that size a few years back and loved it- only the necessities. I'm probably not going to have much stuff. I do have a queen sized bed that I'd like to keep.

I don't have a budget at the moment. I'm trying to determine that based on where I want to live. I don't want to pay ridiculous rent, but everything there is ridiculous compared to STL lol So I don't have a measuring stick for what's reasonable. I may be able to afford up to $1,600 a month by myself - maybe more. It's hard to say - it heavily depends on how quickly I am able to sign on clients (I'm a marketing consultant). I plan on saving enough money to get me by for at least 4 months before I move, so the more economical, the better, in terms of simply being prepared.

An apartment building would be cool, at least it would help me meet people, but I tend to prefer flats.

Sounds like you are doing your homework and yes a bank statement, SS #, and paycheck stub will be required. About your bank statement you did not have to reveal the part about the $20k+ for all (of us) to see...and know. ;)

Excellent points on the 26 age limit for insurance and transportation needs as well. However does it matter that she is a female or being a young human ? Anyone, any gender, and age should get the same preferential treatment from acquaintances as anyone else 21 and over unless they prefer to go it alone.

Uh no I'm pretty sure I'd still be singing the tune of "people who are this excited to mock the dead have some personal issues they need to work out."

What does class or social status have to do with caring if someone died or not to you? What a gross and unsympathetic person you must be.

I guess in your eyes TTP you would call the dead a hero. And yeah sometimes we feel worse or better depending on the characteristics of the dead.
