Re: Bill would require more affordable housing in Downtown Jersey City

Isn't this the same development, where the developers were allowed to build 5 stories higher because it included affordable apartments?
Weren't there 1000 applications for the 87 affordable rate apartments?
Just wondering.

A little more infromation on Question 1 here:
he New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act provides $125,000,000 for construction and renovation projects throughout the state of New Jersey if the voters approve it on the ballot on November 7. The program will be a 1:1 match of state and local dollars.
The goals of the bond act are to upgrade public library facilities to meet community needs and to strengthen New Jersey's economy by creating job opportunities for New Jersey businesses.
This funding will:
Provide much needed community infrastructure repairs and updates to library facilities, including bringing libraries into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, renovating library facilities, and providing technology upgrades.
Cost sharing program with state funds so construction projects are not dependent solely on local property taxes.
Creates opportunites to invest in the New Jersey workforce and local businesses through jobs, construction, and economic development
This legislation was passed with strong bipartisan support in both the NJ General Assembly and the NJ Senate, and was signed into law by Governor Christie in July. It asks that the voters approve the state expenditure of funds with a ballot question on November 7.

No way are some blue sections of downtown closer to Christ than JCMC. I see some huge lawsuits in the pipeline for this clusterf%%k.

Some parts of Hamilton Park (9th , 10th Street, including the Lincoln/Roosevelt) are closer to Christ Hospital by mileage.

It seems to me that most JC residents would be nearest to a CarePoint Hospital , according to GPS, (Christ, Bayonne, St. Mary's) than JCMC.
Carepoint is OUT OF NETWORK for most insurances. Isn't this what JC residents informed the mayor and the council we did not want?

Rich, It happened to me too. there is no choice either than cable or fios, neither of which will be stable or in service in an emergency. So I too had to give up my landline which worked during storms, blackouts, etc.

With FIOS they have to wire inside your house which may involve drilling through walls to string the wire. They have some unattractive molding to cover the wire, there is also a thinner wire they can run.

I went with cable voice.

There is a case or complaint against them, but since you are given 30 days from the date of the cancellation letter, you have to hurriedly find a cable or fios so as not to lose your phone number and service. there is no time to wait for the outcome of challenges.

None of the carriers support copper landlines anymore.

Just took a white taxi from the Grove Street stand. I was tired and wasn't paying attention. I noticed the meter wasn't lit as the ride progressed. I asked the driver, he said the fare was $6.00 flat. When the cab arrived at my destination and he turned the cab lights on, I noticed there was no ID posted, no driver photo etc. I took down the license plate OT 1715. Be on your guard against this scammer.
I'll definitely be more careful and observant next time.

Was anyone else woken up today by the cadets doing calisthenics under the undercroft of their building on 12th Street at 5:54am? Even after I got up and closed my windows, I could still hear them shouting out each count.

Is there any way to make them understand that they are situated between two residential neighborhoods, and their exercise regimes might be better if they took place in Liberty State Park?

The situation with cadet generated noise has been going on for years. Does the Port Authority have a contact for neighborhood issues ?

Also check with your contractor, you may have to reinforce your bottom cabinets, because stone countertops are much heavier than formica.

Re: 400 Unit Development in Hamilton Park

I beg to differ Brewster, many of us have attended HPNA and meetings sponsored by Candace Osborne. Ignoring the problems engendered by a lack of parking and affordable housing in these massive luxury housing projects in the planning stages only means that we residents will have to deal with the repercussions long after this administration has moved on.

The lack of urban planning in Jersey City is abominable, and the tradition of leaving it to the developers to decide the future of the city simply and quite obviously doesn't work
(look at the massive waterfront and downtown developments with their ever rising rents which do not cater to the present population of Jersey City). It seems the last development to include onsite affordable housing was Newport in the 1980's.

Didn't our mayor, when he was a councilperson, decry Healy for the enormous amount of luxury housing being approved and built (with abatements) when the amount of affordable housing was infinitesimally small?

Even NYC is reacting and trying to remedy the lack of affordable housing in Manhattan which occurred in the previous administration because, a lack of economic diversity and affordable housing is not good for economic growth.

Perhaps because he knows it's only the hysterical squeaky wheels like you talking, not the general population. Most of us don't have the idea that our city needs to be frozen in time with nothing ever changing. I remember clearly similar hysterics that the construction of the Home Depot would bring the apocalypse. Didn't.

KRE has proposed a 190 ft 400 unit rental building on 9th & Marin.

The area is zoned for 66 units an acre, 140 ft, .5 parking spaces per unit
The developer is asking for 300 units an acre, 190 ft, .5 parking spaces per unit (zip cars count as 5 parking spaces)

This is a 2nd reading where anyone from the public can speak on the topic once the topic is called.

When: Wednesday June 25
Time: 6pm
Where: City Council Chambers 280 Grove Street

Re: Jersey City restarting process to select ambulance provider

I really don't understand the reason for the RFPs for an ambulance provider for JC. I don't understand why if we have a current provider who provides service without complaints why we should change now.

I was discussing this with one of my health care providers and was told that McCabe is awful, they over-bill and steer patients to their affiliates, charges that have been aired here as well.

If this is such a well known situation, why is this whole charade being pursued, with an effect that may be detrimental to the health and economic well being of our residents?

What is the official reason for the need for this change?

As someone who in the last six months was faced twice with colleagues/neighbors with medical emergencies and had to use JCMC ambulances (once during a blizzard/icestorm), I was amazed by their professionalism, quality care, and ability to transport us to our hospital of choice.

My feeling is if it ain't broke. leave it alone.

As a long time user of Christ Hospital, I am not too happy with their policies and services under Carepoint's administration.

My $.02

Will our mayor and council members listen to citizen input?

The vendor is Jersey Buzz
Here is info from their website

http://www.jerseybuzz.net/

Aaron Daniels is a producer and distributor of honey and honey related products. He works in the growing urban farming industry as a full-time Beekeeper. Beekeeping (or apiculture, from Latin apis, bee) is the maintenance of honey bee colonies. A beekeeper (or apiarist) keeps bees in order to collect honey and other products of the hive (including beeswax, propolis, pollen, and royal jelly), to pollinate crops, or to produce bees for sale to other beekeepers. A location where bees are kept is called an apiary or "bee yard". Aaron has kept bees for over three years; each year is an enjoyable new experience.

He is a member of:

Essex County Beekeepers' Association

New Jersey Beekeepers' Association

American Beekeeping Federation

Aaron enjoys giving workshops and explaining how important bees are. 80% of food comes from bees: Since the majority of plant survival is dependent on pollination, without bees our shopping lists get shorter! Honey bees travel and pollinate our non-edible (yet equally important) plant life too. So it's up to us to keep that cycle going. JerseyBuzz thanks you for supporting our task of pollinating the earth!

And if you can't make the market- online shop is at
