I'm not buying the 'dirty cop' theory as the sole reason crimes aren't being investigated and arrests being made ... I believe its more to do with community attitudes and the SNITCHES GET STITCHES fear that dictates to safety and security of an area.

If there are all these 'dirty cops', the community would be right onto it - The community would love to see cops caught-out, just look at all the you-tube footage of bad cops and how WILLING the community is to highlight them and REPORT them.

I lived here five years and we do not have the problems in your link, we have a gang problem which is not addressed in your links. i.e. housebreak-ins are really low in the area.

Until we can get a competent police force with real gang experience, and rid ourselves of dirty cops on the take only then we can deal with the current mob that is running the south-side.

Lincoln football team eyes state title amid spike in Jersey City street violence

By Patrick Villanova | The Jersey Journal

The excitement of his football team's undefeated season isn't what keeps James Burgess up at night.

It's the sirens.

When Lincoln (11-0) meets Raritan (6-5) in Saturday's NJSIAA Central, Group 2 state championship at Kean University, Burgess and his teammates will carry much more than the weight of an undefeated season and the hope of winning their school's first state title since 1981. They also bear the burden of a recent explosion of street violence that has plagued the South and West districts of Jersey City ? neighborhoods the players call home.

Since Oct. 16, the state's second largest city has seen seven fatal shootings, including five shooting deaths during a 12-day stretch last month. There have also been least 11 non-fatal shootings, most of which have occurred south of Communipaw Avenue in the city's Greenville and Bergen/Lafayette neighborhoods.

"It's crazy when I lay my head, I hear ambulances all the time," Burgess, a junior linebacker, said during Lincoln's practice Wednesday night. "I never have a peaceful night."

Interesting so many young whites are coming over to this city and so many Blacks, Asian and Latinos want a way out of this city. Goes to show you.

That's very encouraging, the community needs voices like this. Without buy in from the good people who live there nothing will improve, although I can understand why someone would fear for their lives for talking to the police.

Jersey Journal Coverage of Virginia Ave Shooting

This might be a valid possibility had this shooting occurred in a vacuum, but with the benefit of knowing that innumerable such shootings have occurred before, both in JC and nationwide, and in almost every such instance, both the victims and witnesses refuse to tell the police what happened, seems safe to say this is yet another instance of Snitches get Stitches.
More needs to be done to insure people who come forward are safe from retaliation and so it doesn't keep continuing generation to generation. This seems to be becoming more of a factor in violent crimes now a days even though over all violence is down.

To be honest, what scares me is that U-Boat commander hat you wore at the party the other night! :)

Of course, blacks make up about 15% of the population but commit over 50% of murders. Adjusted for population you're 8X as likely to be murdered by a black American than a white American.

Somehow I think the 18 year old isn't a legal gun owner, but giving 'stop and frisk' the green light would work wonders. It's a third rail for Democrats, though. Mandatory prison terms with no chance of plea bargain works as well.
