Barely getting mail (served by the Bergen Ave / JSQ station) and mail picked up from the local PO Box is taking a much longer than usual (Netflix).

Been giving mail to my wife to mail from her work in the hope that it actually gets to its recipients.

today I got last week's Economist and this month's PSE&G bill, both of which should have been here a week or two ago, so at least all of that mail isn't lost completely.

In it there is a PDF|Excel that lists mail service disruptions by zip code

07306 has Hurricane Sandy TBD

I'm so glad I found this thread - I've been wondering about this same problem! In 2 weeks now I've gotten 1 issue of New York magazine (presumably delivered before the storm - I wasn't home from Friday 10/26 onward), 1 of the Fios guide for November, and my Verizon Wireless Bill. I, too, haven't gotten last week's New York mag, no Time Out New York, no Sports Illustrated, and no Entertainment Weekly - not to mention anything else, like other bills (and the twice-weekly junk mail from Comcast...).

What's the deal? I can understand if stuff was lost during the storm (although I'd like to have an official notice about it!), but why hasn't anything post-storm gotten through? If the storm really DID destroy mail, shouldn't it only have been what was scheduled to be delivered, locally, on Tuesday (and maybe Wednesday) of last week?

Where is THIS week's mail???

They should make a public announcement if our mail is destroyed. Why isn't this in the news?

although upon further reflection, that doesn't really explain why there have been no magazines this week thus far.

After talking to a few mail carriers I found out the mail sorting station in Kearny was under water - found out yesterday from a mailman in Hoboken that the facility in Kearny was not only under water but an entire wall blew out from flooding. He was nice enough to tell me any mail there was gone - it will most likely be "returned to sender" rather than be delivered. Anything else, not legible etc.(meaning to or from) will probably be destroyed or just thrown out because to and from addresses are not legible. Mail has now been routed to another area for sorting. If you were expecting something during the storm it's probably a gonner ! Anything mailed during that week is most likely lost or under water. Supposedly this is the reason why the main post office in J.C. has no mail in it - they have had no deliveries. They should be getting deliveries soon from another sorting station. Just an FYI.

USPS doesn't reliably log their packages in and out even in the best of times...

today was a bit better here, one big package and one small one, but still no magazines etc. the USPS guy confirmed that the problems are before the mail gets to the Montgomery St. station, so going there won't help.

I got a call from USPS saying the Karney hub was under 4 feet of water. And they are routing mail to different centers.

What annoys me, is I had a package pass through on Oct 28 and it i haven't gotten it. Another package passed through there on same day and got delivered Monday. I had a recent package pass through there as well and it came today. However USPS has no update of it ever arriving at the local post office.

I've given up on expecting anything in the mail. On the plus side, I'm not missing the random advertisements/mailers sticking out of my box.

This is hearsay from the grape vine.. err..I mean gas line. I was in a 3 hour gas container line on Sunday at a station in Greenville. The guy in front of me worked for the post office. He said his work place in Kearny was under 4 feet of water and everyone that works there was told to report to Teterboro. As you know the Kearny meadows floods even with a moderate rain so I can only imagine how bad it was.

I did go to the USPS website and it seems to confirm that something is up with the Kearny location. I don?t know how much of JC mail hits it.

http://about.usps.com/news/service-alerts/welcome.htm

There is a pdf that lists post offices by zip code and the status of each. You will see a lot of information like this on the page..click around?

Current update:

these are the above mentioned sites..

If your looking for mail or having mail delivery problems call your local post office.

If your zip code is:
07302,07310,07311 call 201-915-7011 or 201-915-7001
zip code 07306 call 201-798-2681,
zip code 07305 call 201-379-3960,
zip code 07304 call 201-332-2556.

These are the phone numbers to your local post office save it not only for now but for future questions about mailing or problems

the mail situation continues to be bad, a few letters but now two full weeks without magazines or packages (predating Sandy, the service here often skips a day or two each week in the best of times). I'm going to go down to the post office tomorrow or Friday to see if I can get stuff that way, I'm waiting on many things.

I received a couple of pieces of mail today delivered by someone on foot. This is the first time since Monday. The problem is that the local postal stations are not open, only the main branch on Montgomery. I have seen some trucks out & I imagine they are delivering bulk.

I have been getting almost no mail either. My Time Out New York magazine is missing, I should have a Vanity Fair, my Netflix movies and regular bills are missing. I have gotten a couple of things from out of state but that's it. Normally my mail is delivered on foot so I do not see what the problem is. You can't tell me the post office doesn't have access to gas or a way to get it's employees around.

Mail wasn't delivered for a few days, but I did get one item today. I suspect there is a huge back-up. I did go to the PO today (Montgomery St.) and they are now up and running. I think if you give it another day or two we might be back to normal. ...Maybe.

I'd like to know this too, and especially whether I can go to the Montgomery office on Monday and send stuff. I got a few letters on Thursday, nothing yesterday, and just the voting form today, but nothing bigger, like packages or magazines.

Anyone know what the mail situation is in downtown JC?

I've gotten nothing since Monday and I'm starting to worry; had a few things I've been expecting and have had extremely negative experiences with the integrity of the 07302 Post Office.
