Does anyone know if Spectra has made any "donations" to the police union? It would make sense, since Spectra has been dishing out big bucks to buy off various other groups.

This just is another example of the truth that unions only look out for themselves, not the good of the community. I hope they post this fact regarding the PD Union endorsement on the nogaspipeline.com website. I know that I certainly will never again make any type of donation to this organization or support any of their causes. The Union has sold this community down the river for the sake of lining their own pockets with overtime. Why am I not surprised?

Sure it's the moonlighting, but don't you think it's also "union solidarity" with the hardhats so they'll support the cops in their next negotiation? The real joke on us, as pointed out, is that neither groups really live here.

So this is what the Jersey City residents get for defending the cops from layoffs? What happened to looking out for the betterment of the community at large? No disrespect to the officers of the JCPD but that's really a stab in the back to the residents who stood up and defended you. Realistically speaking though, this is the statement from the big chiefs of the union. The officers are probably forced to just shut up and accept it or be threatened with more layoffs.

I wonder which cop is looking for a political career by this endorsement, which has nothing to do with policing.

You scratch my back, I'll scratch your's.

Remember this next time one of Jersey City's finest says, We don't make the laws, we just enforce them. Not only do they weigh in and try to influence public policy issues like this, but they have a lot to say about pending legislation too.

Just curious, how many of those officers are actual residents with their families living next to the proposed pipeline?

Obviously because of hundreds or thousands of hours of overtime it will create for them.

Not to mention all the moonlighting jobs for its members, remember you can't screw in a light bulb in the corrupt town without paying a cops to stand there and talk on his cell phone.

Citing jobs creation, more revenue for city, and cleaner air, Jersey City police officers union endorses Spectra Energy's plan to run gas pipeline through Bayonne, Jersey City and offshore Hoboken

Wednesday, April 20, 2011
By TERRENCE T. McDONALD
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

The Jersey City Police Officers Benevolent Association is offering its support of the controversial Spectra Energy gas pipeline proposed to run through parts of Hudson County.

In an April 8 letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which is reviewing Spectra's application, members of the JCPOBA executive board say the project will increase revenue to the city, create over 2,000 jobs and lead to cleaner air.

The board met with Spectra officials and did extensive research on the Houston energy giant's track record, according to the letter.

"We are satisfied with their commitment to the safety of the residents of Jersey City," the letter reads.

Spectra's proposal, submitted to FERC last year, calls for a 15.5-mile extension of its gas pipeline to run through parts of Bayonne, Jersey City and offshore Hoboken.
