The apartments in my landlord's building range from 1200-1400 for a 1BR based on sq ft. We are 2 blocks east of HP.

1700 for a studio seems to me like it would be in one of those fancier luxury condos.
When I was looking for a one bedroom in Jersey City the places on the 'nicer blocks' did range from 1400-1700 for a 1 bedroom near vanvorst. I also went to some open houses with a 1250 one bedroom near the grove street path but there were so many people there applying for that apartment that I didn't have a shot.

My landlord's other building is 1 block from Hamilton Park and a 2 BR is currently going for 1475/month:
http://newyork.craigslist.org/jsy/abo/864361697.html Granted, the building is older so the rent is adjusted down to compensate, but 1700 for a studio sounds steep to me.

I am wondering what people on average are paying for a studio or 1 bedroom apt in downtown JC. I keep seeing rents from $1,300 to 1,700.00 for a decent place on a "safe" street. It seems crazy to me having lived here for awhile. I am considering a move but can't belive the $$$.
It also seems like brokers have taken over the rental scene since I last looked for a rental
